You can get B12 in cheese, cottage cheese, eggs, milk, yogurt which regular vegetarians tend to eat.

now vegans of course don't eat those-so they would have to be more careful...but if you are vegan, i am sure you know of the "risks" involved and would make sure that your diet is compensated in some other way rather by supplement etc.

I know vegatarian moms who have the most gorgeous, bright, and spirited children in the world. I also know some vegetarian moms whose kids have rarely tasted a fruit or vegetable and live on chips, Arizona ice tea, popcorn, french fries and crackers. Needless to say, those kids are less than well-developed. One of these moms is actually quite close to me, and when she comes over to my house and I'm cooking chicken, rice and beans, spinach and okra, (which my kids devour) she makes loud retching noises and talks about how unhealthy our diet is! : Her kids are hungry and begging for some rice and beans, but she says they can't have any because I cooked meat on the same stove as the rice and veggies, so she buys them potato chips and ice tea for dinner instead, all the while lecturing me about how my evil ways are destroyng the planet.
I know another vegan mom who stopped nursing at around 8 months, but fed her baby a strict macrobiotic diet from around 4 months. Her baby nearly died from malnutrition.
Neither of these women would take any advice from me, who never even suggested they feed their children fish or poultry. I tried to help them with advice about mixing grains, creating easy, delicious recipes with tofu and tons of veggies and beans,(I had a vegetarian restaurant once) but since I am a "meat-eater" they sneered at me and told me I was going to die from all sorts of awful illnesses.
Perhaps these moms were the potato chip and ice tea kind of "vegetarians"?
