How many days was it before your little one lost their stump?

Ian's took 21 days!!!!!!!!! Gracie's only took 10, so I was pretty suprised.

Alden lost his at 6 days, but my pediatrician said that boys often take longer to lose theirs than girls. Don't know why that would be.

What would be really interesting would be a poll that showed the differences in treatment of the stump and how long it took to fall off.

I didn't treat Ian's at all until about 14 days, then I started using a powder herbal cord treatment. It still took another week before it came off!

Michael lost his at 14 days-- on his two week birthday! I don't know about the first couple of days in NICU, but the last two or three he wasn't given any alcohol to treat his cord, and we didn't give him alcohol at home. At home his cord got wet twice because he peed up . And, after the cord fell off, the stump oozed on and off for about a week, but it didn't get infected: no redness, and it wasn't sensitive to the touch. He does have a bit of a scab now when his stump sticks out.

Asher lost his on day 12 I think. My midwife said if you are getting it wet in the bath it will take longer to fall off but that it doesn't matter.

We didn't do anything special to his cord. No alcohol, still submerged him in his bath and it fell off in 6 days. It seems like maybe it's just chance when they fall off.

We are on day 17, and Sage still hasn't lost hers.

Charlie lost his on day 7. I didn't do anything to it but it was really bloody on days 5-6 (yucky) and finally fell off the next day. Micky

All of my kids lost theirs by day 5, this one included. I was able to keep #2's and #3's. This baby's cord stump was funky and it's still funky. Speaking of baby, he's here now asking to nurse ;0

Soraya's took 7 days to fall off. Arjun's took 11. My midwife said to put alcohol on it 6-8 times a day and if it didn't fall off in 6 days or less, we weren't doing our job : whatever. We treated it with alcohol and hydrogen peroxide a few times a day.

4 days...I was really surprised last night when it just fell right off. Other than the bath he had with me after he was born, nothing has been done to his cord stump. I did read that the earlier the cord is clamped the later the stump takes... how does this corespond with your baby's cords? I was able to deliver placenta before clamping and cutting the cord so in my case it's true.
