nak

How much of a christian overtone does the course have? i've read The FP planner and i didnt think it was too preachy at all.
the reason i ask is b/c i've convinced dh to go but he's not happy abt it - lol - esp the "at a church doing a course written by a xtian writer" par.t

so? what did you think?

I would love to do it. but haven't yet. they teach it at our church and I have never heard a single negative thing about it. I know tithing it a part of it and they take a biblical stance on dabt being a bad thing and against Gods will.

I say even if it does get a little preachy the results sound worth it. A large percentage of everyone who has taken the class at our church was out of all debt excpt thier home within 5 years some in much shorter time frames and some including thier homes. It is amazing.

My Dh is a big Dave Ramsey fan an listens to his webcast version of the show at least weekly. DH is not religious and often bristles at things that seem religious to him. Anyway for him it is not an issue.

I love the messges of his books- once you get past all those success stories etc, he has good solid advice.

I esp like "live like no one else, so you can live like no one else"
or "People who enjoy eating dog food need not save for retirement"

I myself am not into seminars etc so its not something I would do.

Hi, I haven't posted on this specific forum before, but I've been lurking. I've had the same reservations about taking FPU as your DH. I will be very interested to hear how it works out.

Went to the 1st class this week and here is my take so far. The course is a little more christian based than his books. Still though, I didnt see anything that turned me off. It was just mention of scripture here and there that applied - like Proverbs 21:20 "In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has", and Proverbs 21:5 "The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender".
Good advice whether it's from the bible or not, kwim? But it wasnt like a sermon at all.
i've got more to say abt it, but the littles are raging thru the house and I have to referee for a bit. lol
Be back to add more later.

Any more news on this? Is it still fairly comfortable?

so far so good. There hasnt really been any more mention of religion or God after the first lesson. I'm still learning a lot but am starting to loose steam. I think partly b/c it's takes a few months to tweak your budget and cash flow system, so on paper everything looks great, but irl it isnt matching up. DR makes a point to say this IS going to happen, that it will take a few months to get a good groove.

so far we've paid off abt 6K of debt w/tax $$ and DH year end bonus - that's abt half of our overall debt!
