We also need to decide a name for the ring. Something like MDC Mamas Knitring or something more clever.

I would think that guidelines for acceptance would be active members on MDC and a knitting or crocheting blog???

To sign up for ringsurf, you need an e-mail address to associate with it. I just created one at Gmail. It is mdcknitring(at)gmail(dot)com . I will share the password with whoever wants to manage it with me. We also need a ring home website, which I just created at Blogger. It is www.mdcknitring.blogspot.com

Once we have it up and running, which should be really easy, each person who wants to sign up does so through either the website or by clicking on the button of someone who is already a member, which will bring them to the join page of Ring Surf. We can have clear instructions on how to join once it is set up.

Cool! Thanks for doing this. So are we ready to start joining, or does something else need to be done? Also, will our ringsurf page show a list of ring members, along with stats (i.e., how many people have visited the ringsurf page through each blog, and how many blogs have been visited through the ring)? I only ask b/c I'm obsessed with checking those stats on my other webring.

I think another possible guideline (a fairly standard one) would be that members of the ring have to keep their blogs updated regularly (the other ring I'm a part of stipulates at least once a month), and that members have to provide a link/button to the ring on their blog.

In addition to MDC Mamas Knitring, I would suggest:
Knitting Mamas
Mothering Knitters
Or something with "crochet" also in the title? Or, to go with this forum, Yarn Craft Mamas? Crafty Mamas? I dunno.

Stacey - here is the current status:

The ring has been started. Right now it is called the MDC Mamas Knitring but I'm sure we can change it. I like MDC Yarn Crafters or Yarn Crafters without the MDC since when people click on the button, they'll read what we're about.

I have updated the home page www.mdcknitring.blogspot.com with links to join, to see the list, and to MDC. Sarah and I will be adding a post for each new member with a little blurb about the blog. So far, she and I are members, and I have a blurb for each of us. She added a sitemeter.

So technically, you can all join now. I just thought it might be better to wait until we have a button, which MDC member "Kati" has volunteered to make (responding to my post in TAO about it) and have agreed on the name. Otherwise, people will have to go back and edit the code in their templates to change the name and add the button, etc. And if we waited, Sarah and I would start a new post with the info and detailed information on how to sign up, and how to post the code into your template, etc.

I just checked on Ringsurf and if you do a search for the site and then click on stats, it shows you how many people came to it through each blog. Great to know!

This is a great idea...I'm in, but I have to figure out how to put the web ring logo on my blog. That may take some time.

I voted for Mothering Yarn Mamas, since I'm still a non or novice knitter, but spin and crochet up a storm. Going to try to cast on some pretty mohair yarn for my second scarf today, though. Nothing like using some really difficult/fancy yarn for your second ever knitting project, right?

Hi Debtsmommy - we weren't officially starting yet, although 5 people have joined anyway. Once we decide on a name, we're going to post a thread on how to join with very specific information on editing your template. I see that you haven't changed any of yours since your links say "edit me" so I'll be happy to help you more personally, if needed. MoMommy is the co-moderator so please feel free to PM her as well.

Since you will need extra help, wait until we decide on a name. Otherwise you'll need to go back in and edit the text again. You might as well wait and do it all at once. Right?
