milk allergy

I think my son may be allergic to milk but I am looking for feedback from other moms. We've been battling this for almost a year and have been through a great deal of difficulty with his old pediatrician. Here are his symptoms:

1. At 2 months (the day he got his 2 month vaccine actually) his bowel movements starting being dark green (he was exclusively breast fed). we removed dairy from my diet, green poop went away. reintroduced it green poop came back. ped said green poop = no problem. however green poop was very clearly correlated with my consumption of dairy (we had a few trials where this was the case)

2. At around the same time ds started getting a very persistent diaper rash. we tried every otc diaper cream. ped recommended washing with dove soap and using hydrocortisone. no relief. recently went to a naturopath who said it was a yeast infection. tried using herbs no relief. tried switching to sposies no relief.

3. rash is spotchy and pin prick looking in diaper area. dry, rough, somewhat scaly rash on thighs and waistline. also on wrist and ankle. rash flares up in the evening. very bright red on thighs, waist and wrist.

4. chronic stuffy nose and cough (not the kind you get with a cold)

5. chronic night waking, often with a very aggitated scream or cry

6. started keeping a food journal. coincidentally, yesterday he ate no dairy and didn't have an evening flare up.

does this sound like a milk allergy? could it be something else? how would you handle it (other than just elliminating dairy from his diet and mine)? could it be related to vaccines since it showed up the day he got his first vaccines? any homeopathic, herbal remedies that might help his detox and heal quicker? btw ds is now 13 months. thanks so much

I found the same thing about green poop with my DD. Others said it was no problem as long as she was thriving, but it definitely seems correlated to food sensitivities/allergies.

I don't know the facts really, but I believe that milk proteins can take a week or two to leave your system. It might be best to do an elimination diet for a few weeks to completely avoid allergens before reintroducing them one at a time. You could just avoid dairy if you think that's the only food sensitivity happening.

Sounds like classic milk allergy/intolerance in a breastfed baby to me. Takes at least 2 weeks to leave your system. Make sure you remove even trace amounts for at least 2 weeks before expecting to see results.

I would assume a dairy allergy at this point. My now 3.5-year-old started breaking out within several days of his 2-mos vaxes; he also stopped growing completely for the next 5 months. He's allergic to dairy, wheat, soy, nuts, peanuts, eggs, corn, most fruit and veggies, and latex and several other things that don't spring immediately to mind. His worst allergy is dairy; he's anaphylactic via both contact and airborne. I don't think the vaxes *caused* the allergies but I do think they triggered an already vulnerable immune system. One of the vaxes typically given at 2-months contains lactose. Our first peds were pretty useless; the practice didn't have a clue how to deal with allergies, but were very insistent that *they* were in charge, not me, and *they* could save my baby. Needless to say, we left. Found specialists who understood allergists and who listened to us and respected our role as parents. Elimination is the first step; we'll be exploring more homeopathic treatments in the next few years, at least for the milder allergies.

The first 2 weeks are hard. After that, it's no big deal. The only thing that gets me down is that there is no chance of eating out or getting take-out. I just get tired of cooking every meal myself.
