when to tell?

hey everyone,

we just found out yesterday that i'm pregnant with our first! we've decided to hold off telling everyone (most everyone) until the first trimester passes. which brings me to my question--how do you calculate that? from the first day of your last period or closer to when you think you conceived?

i had what i think was implantation bleeding on monday so, that's why i feel like i have some idea about when we conceived.

any advice? i'm a little clueless

The length of your pg is calculated from 1st day of last period. So 12 wks from that would be the end of the first trimester.

I'm trying to wait until after the first trimester too---only problem is, I already had to tell one person. (I was invited to a cleaning night at our church and didn't want to be around chemicals/do heavy lifting etc. . .).

we were going to wait until 12 weeks but my husband has a big mouth, lol.

I think, amjs, you could measure it (for yourself) from whichever point you are most sure of. I was told by one momma that a normal gestation is generally 38 weeks, but if that's the case my daughter wanted to go the full 40+.... anyway... I'm calculating my DD based on conception and counting my trimesters based on that. I think it also depends on how baddly you want to tell people and feel sort of safer. Ya know? Like, if you want to be extra safe and closer to having had the pregnancy for 12 weeks, I'd go from when you think conception occurred. If you don't need that two weeks, generally speaking, and you'd feel ok telling everyone at 12 weeks based on your cycle, then GO FOR IT!!! It's so much fun to share the news! I would have a hard time waiting. For me, it's easier to share my excitement and then, if I lose the baby, they will know why I'm wiggin out. YKWIM?

thanks for that input. i've been reading about what typical symptoms are for four weeks (measured from my cycle) and starting to feel a little anxious because i dont have any! i know it varies from woman to woman but it just feels strange to not feel anything....so thinking that i'm only two weeks along rather than four lessens that anxiety. this is probably the only time in my life i'll feel anxious about NOT feeling sick!
