has your child ever done score? i just started dd and she seems to like it. i envisioned her sitting with tutor but it is all computor based. it is this program called "headsprout". my question to them was "why can't i just buy this program and avoid paying 200 $ a month"? they said something about it is good to bring her here and she'll get alot of encouragement" i meet with a counselour in a month to evaluate her progress. i as a child never got the much needed math help i needed my self esteem suffered. i don't want that for her.

I never heard of Score. Can you explain what it is? Is it kind of like Sylvan?

I don't know what Score is.

That said, in our district all Kindergarten teachers have access to Headsprout for free (some use it within their lesson plans, other's allow the lessons to be done at home on the parents computer). DD never used it (she was homeschooled at that point) but several of her friends have enjoyed doing Headsprout on the computer at home.

I'd look into getting a copy (maybe ask at your child's school library--- we got a math computer program there for DD to practice on and they sell copies of the math one for only $3) and trying it at home.

Did you have a recommendation to Score or something?

i don't know if it is working yet. .......she just started.it is like sylvan but it is all computor based... the children raise their hands when they need help. the whole thing is self correcting

I can't understand paying $200 a MONTH for someone to help on a self-correcting program that is less than that online for unlimited access and is self-correcting:

http://www.headsprout.com/home/trial...OVMTC=standard

You can get a 3-lesson trial for free on that site, so I would just try it out and see if your DD is getting as much from the site as she is from the actual lessons.

I would also check w/your school/school district and local library to see if they have it available for free or less.

Do you have some concerns about your DD's learning or what she is being taught at school?

I am vaguely familiar with Score as I live in the south bay. Personally, if you feel your dd is having problems with school, look on craigslist for a tutor. it may be cheaper and your dd would be getting one on one. i know it isn't your topic. just trying to help.
