Allergic reaction - if so, to WHAT? - Page 2

Zyrtec would not be effective in the midst of an allergic reaction. Atarax is a fast-acting antihistamine, like benadryl. If your child is experiencing hives as a response to a food, zyrtec would not be effective.

Hi,
I was lurking and saw Atarax and had to chime in. I have been prescribed Atarax (twice) I remember it as some strong stuff! I was prescribed it when I had a rare reaction to sunlight. (not rare for me, I am very sensitive) but rare for most people, anyway I digress, I would say it would be great to have on hand like previous posters mentioned if a potentially dangerous allergic reaction comes up, but as far as taking it twice a day proactively, that seems odd. It will positively knock your child out! Think benadryl drowsiness times 100. I remember just sleeping or being in an Atarax induced drowsy haze during my time on the drug. Just my experience for what its worth.
