my dd has had a problem w/food allergies for some time. i saw the allergist at kaiser (our HMO) and he advised against allergy testing saying that it had a lot of false positives. i think they do skin and/or blood testing. he said since i basically knew what she was allergic to just to avoid those foods. but now she is having more symptoms and developing more allergies. just started having reaction to soy. so i'm wondering if i should go to the allergist and insist on the allergy testing. if so, is this really the best testing to get? or should i get the testing through another route? my dd is 2.5. i knew she was allergic to dairy. her symptoms were dry itchy skin and gas and diahrea. she was doing fine for quite awhile but recently developed the same symptoms in reaction to soy. i'm wondering if maybe she has other food allergies i'm not even aware of (like gluten) she does have some delays, language delays and gross motor delays and gets restless, irritable, hyperactive, and scattered. the delays are chronic, but the self regulation problems are definitely on and off. she is getting o.t. for sensory integration problems which frankly i'm beginning to wonder is simply food allergies. she is much more focused and mellow when her diet is good. any advice would be appreciated.
