Will it hurt

Thread Starter
I have made quite a few diapers already and i am only putting 2 layers in the body. I put like 6-8 in the soakers. Just wondering if there is a reason that put 3 or4 when you only need 2. (i think it is bulky with more than 2)
So will it hurt with only 2 layers in the body.
And i have not always been topstiching my diapers. I like the look of that better as well. I just sew and turn and seal up the whole i don't top stich the whole diaper I think this works better for the elastic.
So do you think that i need to topstich.
Are my diapers going to hold up in the washer.
I could always go and finish the topstich. But it would be hard to add more body layers now.
So what do you all think

I only use 2 body layers. Otherwise, my diapers would probably take forever to dry!

And the topstitching is just personal preference. I like to topstitch the tabs, as it gives a neat appearance. But it's not a necessity or anything.

What kind of fabric are you using? I only use 2 layers in the body as well (either 2 layers of hemp fleece, 2 layers of velour, or 1 print and 1 hemp or velour). I agree w/Vera. Any more than 2 layers and it takes forever to dry. I never sew a soaker either. WAY too long to dry.

If you like your dipes w/out topstitching, then go for it! They're your dipes.

I prefer the look of topstitching. But it'll work fine without it done. As for the layers... I have no idea. I just do pockets.

I used just 2 body layers of flannel in almost all of the dipes my son wears now and they have held up great for more than a year now. I didn't top stitch completely around the diaper either, I left the elastic without casings.
I sometimes use 3 body layers of thin sherpa or jersey in diapers, if I don't think 2 is substantial enough, but I think it's a personal preference thing.

So far I've only used 4 layers and they take forever and a day to dry. Its so bad that I've been considering making another full day's worth of diapers just to make it through the drying time. I think I'm going to try some 2 layer dipes today and see how that holds up for my VERY heavy wetter 2yo.

I use 2-3 layers on my diaper. When I use 3 layers it is because I don't want to see the thread used to sew the soaker and elastic onto the bodylayers. I think it makes for a neater looking diaper, but then sometimes I don't care and just use 2 layers. I haven't had many problems with drying time, but my dryer is pretty heavyduty .
