She said that she was sitting in the front seat with the baby and the baby was playing with the steering wheel. Then the paparazzi came over and became very aggressive and started frightening the baby so Britney drove off to get away.

I believe her. And I am not a fan whatsoever. It just makes sense to me.

Ok, she wasn't alone. If her little guy was fussing in his carseat why couldn't she sit in the back and comfort him while the guy with her drove? Or pull over for a few minutes and calm her child? WTF!

I'm almost ashamed to admit to following this, but I saw these pictures and thought maybe they weren't for real - like maybe she was sitting in her car (not driving). Anywho, here is the statement from the Britster herself:
Quote:
"Today I had a horrifying, frightful encounter with the paparazzi while I was with my baby. Because of a recent incident when I was trapped in my car without my baby by a throng of paparazzi, I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger. I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm's way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us, and took photos of us which were sold to the media. I love my child and would do anything to protect him."

Once again she is not alone.
Once again, PCH is a dangerous HWY.

Under what circumstances would you drive a "Bus" (practicly :P) with your newbie on your lap?
Would you do it if someone was taking your picture for the bazillionth time?
and would you do it, if someone else could drive the car or strap the baby in?

There's no excuse. The bodyguard could have buckled in the baby...or kept the paparazzi at bay until she could get the baby properly secured. What good is a bodyguard that just sits there like that? No excuse.
Yeah, her bodyguard could have been putting the baby in the carseat while she drove away. Not ideal, but it would have limited the time the baby spent outside the carseat.

Or she could have called the police and said she was being harrassed and felt unsafe.

Why anyone would do that is beyond me.

I don't quite understand the logic of "I thought my baby was in danger...so I risked his life to protect him."

How does replacing the danger with another (and, IMO, probably greater) danger fix the situation? Have your bodyguard get his butt out of the car to shield you from the press, put your baby in his car seat, and THEN drive away.

The baby should definately have been buckled in, even if she had to climb over the console and go back there with him and put him in herself, yk? While saying that I think the paparazzi are scum and should totally get in trouble for how dispicable they are. I can imagine they are scary.

When I was 18 I was riding with my friend and her new baby. We pulled over so she could feed him and she got in the back with him and was feeding him (out of his carseat). Then this weird guy came over to the car and was banging on the windows screaming for money. He kept doing it and wouldnt leave and she was freaking out and said "get in my seat and drive!" So I did and the baby wasnt buckled in yet (she put him in right away but we took off first.) But when you are scared sometimes you do stupid things. Then again, that guy could have had a gun, who knows.

I do think she is a better mom than I thought she'd be.....in all the pics I see, the baby is always with her.

I think until we are in that kind of a situation, we have no right to judge.

I believe her.

I agree with AngelBee, hard to know what it was like.

The good news is no one got hurt, and she will likely never do it again because she is going to get slammed.

Going, going............

I can imagine that if she panicked, she would have done something less than ideal.

One time I was on my way to pick up a friend from work. It was like... 10pm. I stopped in a Kmart parking lot that was relatively empty, so that I could feed dd (she was maybe... 4 months old at the time). I was sitting in the driver's seat feeding her, and the car was still running and everything (I didn't expect to be very long anyway). This van starts driving around my car and STARING at me.... and then yelling at me. If he had come back around one more time, I DEFINITELY would have just taken off -- baby in my lap and everything. I was surprised, panicked, and it probably really was a dangerous situation. Thankfully, the man drove away before anything more happened.

SO..... being in a similar situation, I can say that in the heat of the moment, I would have just taken off without much thought, you know? I imagine Britney may have panicked at the idea of how much time it would take her to get her son back in his seat, and that they would be surrounded by that time, etc. Even with someone else in the car, I can understand it happening.

I think that I probably eventually would have handed the baby over to the person in the car though, while driving.... after being able to think for a minute.

I understand being upset and not thinking but the bodyguard could have easily strapped the baby back in the carseat.
Personally, I think it was a stupid and irresponsible thing to do. She was not alone. She could've handed over the baby, told the bodyguard to put him in NOW and take off.

Plus, going just by those pictures and admitting that this is an ASSumption, she does not looked panic-y at all. In fact, she looks rather relaxed and she's smiling in one of the pictures.

I hope it's not that she has one of those "I'm-rich-and-famous-and-nothing-can-touch-me" attitudes. If that's the case....sigh.

I do agree with Maeve (btw... PRETTY name!! ), and forgot to say so -- she does not look panicked in the pictures at all. She looks very relaxed. So...... take my reply with a grain of salt. :

Chava,

You didn't scroll to see the rest of the pictures to tell they are for real for sure.

Thank you.

Oh please. Unless there was a serial killer approaching the car with an axe in one hand and the keys in another, there is NO EXCUSE to drive (for over 2 miles, according to reports) with your baby in your lap. (with her BODYGUARD at her side, nonetheless...maybe she needs a new one??) Even if you're not in a "normal" crash that sends the kid through the windshield and smashing into the pavement at 65 MPH, a low-impact collision that deploys the airbag would snap his neck. I don't need to be in her shoes to know that what she did is stupid, irresponsible, and downright neglect (and child endangerment.)
I never allow my kids to get in the front seats, even with the car parked. I'm so scared of an airbag going off and killing them. It happened in my state a few years ago. That bodyguard could have sat in the back with the baby, or taken over the driving himself while she sat in the back with the baby.
