dead dipes...is there any hope?

I just took my dipes out of storage...to get an idea of how much I want/need for MayBaby.

I used mostly prefolds while we were in small and medium sizes, so I have a kazillion covers but only a handful of fitted dipes.

of that handful

2 SOS and 1 SugarPea have elastic that is completely shot

is there anything I can do to save them?

There must be SOMETHING I can do
(short of opening up all the serging and redoing the elastic and figuring out a way to sew them back shut, since I don't have a serger.....)

I also have a dead Dappi cover, but I'm not suprised over that--I actually bought that one nearly 11 years ago when I was pg with ds1! I'm still sad though, since it is a cute cover

I think there are some WAHMs who will replace the elastic in diapers, though I'm not sure who they are. Perhaps some have PM'd you already? Just in case not I thought I'd give you a

I replace diaper elastic whenever I need to. It's NOT that hard, it's just a PITB. You don't have to rip open all the serging, just a slit on each end where it starts and ends. You must sew a little? Seam rip a couple spots, just a cm, like I said, and seam rip the stitching on the elastic, and then pull it out. Next, cut a new piece, (you'll have to guesstimate how long it should be, definitely needs to be smaller than the dead elastic you pulled out) and put a safety pin on one end. Thread it through, and then sew it down in the two spots where it should start and end. Then pull it taut, and triple zig-zag it through the machine. Then you just have to go over the two little spots where you ripped out the serging with a zig-zag or overlock stitch. Good as new! (Does any of that make sense? )

omg vanilla that made perfect sense!

Worst comes to worst, I'll have wonky leg openings (one tighter than the other) but heck as long as there is SOME elastic they'll be in better shape than they are now!

And if I use the same length elastic...and sew them right were the old elastic is...there really is no reason for them to be toooo wonky

and thank you Saratchka for bumping this for me
