80/20 microterry repelling issues... help

I recently found a whole bolt of 80 cotton/ 20 poly knit microterry & I just used some of it to top some tri-fold inserts. I pre-washed it, but it seems to be repelling-- as in the pee is rolling off and out the leg before it soaks into the hemp layers beneath. Drat. I'm surprised, as I've used 80/20 velour to top ds's inserts & had no problems at all.

Does anyone have any insights/suggestions for this problem?

Hmmm... How many times did you pre-wash it? Maybe it just needs a good stripping of the oils and junk?

If you got it from Joann, I have some of the same stuff. I think they treated it with something. I had to wash it like 3-4 times before it started absorbing.

Yup! I got it from Joann's! I paid $1.66/yard and bought the whole bolt! Dammit. I hope I can get this stuff to absorb, as I was planning to use it as a topper for the tri-folds I'm making to sell!

Oh no! I bought a bunch of that too! I washed it a couple times on hot, but didn't check to see if it absorbed...I just kinda assumed it would. I better check that out before I make a bunch of dipes from it!
