I'm missing his funeral :(

My stepdad is gone and I am missing his funeral. We can't afford to go and neither of our families can afford to help us. I am so pissed!!!!!!!!! Why the hell is everything so money centered in this world!!??? Why can't we just be there and not worry about going into debt or whether we can pay rent or bills? I want to be there! I should be there! I need to be there!

I'm so sorry. I remember a long time ago, airlines offered bereavement fares, but they aren't so understanding as they used to be. I wish things were different and yes, not ruled by dollars. I'm thinking of you

I'm so very sorry. I know when my dad died a few years ago there was NO way I could afford to fly down there. The bereavement ticket price was a whole $20 off! Had my family not been able to help, I'd have missed his funeral. I had to leave my husband and kids home because we could not afford it.

you may find it helpful to plan a memorial service. We had one here for the kids when I got back. We decorated a table with fresh flowers, picuters of my dad and some other momento's. We lit a candle and gathered around. My sister played a song, I read a poem and then we all said a few words of goodbye. I think it really helped my kids and I know it meant a lot to me.
