I absolutely lurve Tori Amos and Sarah Maclachlan!!!!

Their lyrics are beautiful and their music is very special. My fave album by Tori is Under The Pink (as far as I know she dedicated this album to her miscarried baby....hence the albums name...) and my fave album by Sarah is Fumbling Toward Ecstacy. Very beautiful!

I love Tori Amos!!! I like Sarah Maclachlan, too, but I don't really follow her music like I do Tori's.

My favorite Tori album is still Silent All These Years, the very first one I bought. I just received her most recent (Strange Little Girls, which are all cover songs). It is very good, but many of the songs are very disturbing, both in subject matter, and the hauntingness (is that a word?) of the music, so I don't like to play it when my DD is awake, which means I haven't listened to it much. Boy, talk about a run-on sentence

Saw Tori in concert several years ago - the Boys for Pele tour. It was very cool!

Cool! I also like Tori's song Little Eartquakes..."give me life, give me pain, give me myself again..." good for labor! lol

Fumbling Towards Ecstasy and Under The Pink are two very special albums for me too. They mark important landmark times in my life.
I was a Sarah fan back when she came out with her first single in the late '80s, but I've grown disenchanted with her latest work. What do you think of her new image? She was so sweet and lovely, but since Lilith now she's a sex goddess!
That works better on Tori...

I love Tori Amos - Boys for Pele is probably my favorite album.

As far as Under the Pink relating to her miscarriage I think you're confusing it with the album From the Choir Girl Hotel. She did have a miscarriage before writing that album - there's a song called Playboy Mommy on it about having a miscarriage. I couldn't listen to it when I was pregnant because it would make me sob.

Let's see my favorite Tori lyric is about bad relationships: Girls sometimes you gotta know when your only wet because of all the rain.

I saw her twice when I was in college - in fact she came to UConn (where I went to college) and I had third row seats - I was so excitied!

Oh Im a huge fan of Sarahs early stuff, I fell in love with her work when I first hears Vox as a kid Love Tori, would love to go see Tori in concert

I went to the Tori Amos concert (Under the Pink tour) and I am sure was the oldest person there. But I love her music and my fav is also Little Earthquakes.

Sarah's stuff is great, too. I have all the CDs (almost wrote albums....boy does that date me!) and I agree that her earlier stuff is better.

If you like these two ladies check out Jane Siberry. You might be familiar with one of her songs that was at the end of the movie, Pay it Forward. The song was called Calling All Angels. She has a hauntingly beautiful voice and awesome lyrics. The CD, When I was a Boy, is a good place to start.

Yep! I'm not a crazy big fan anymore of either...I now only listen to the music everyonce in a while. But are there times when it totally speaks to me? Yup. It's beautiful.

i love both tori and sarah.

in grad school, dh and i bought 'little earthquakes' and listened to it constantly all winter long. now all the songs remind me of the beautiful eastern washington state winters. so crisp and lovely. i love 'me and a gun,' because i think she was so courageous to write a song about her rape and to put it out there.

i love all of sarah's stuff, but especially 'solace' (which is playing right now as dd sleeps). the loveliest song on there is (IMO) ' i will not forget you.'

ahhh....

Have any of you seen Mirrorball on DVD? (Concert) Sarah is wearing this really beautiful sparkly blue evening dress and no shoes!!!! Its divine!

Love Both. More of a fan of Sarah though. My older dd's (she is almost 5) favorite artist is Sarah, everytime we get in the truck she asks me to put it on. She sings right along and knows most of the words!

Raven-SEEN IT! LOVE IT! OWN IT! It is a great DVD. so nice to sit and watch her sing. I highly recommend getting it. (We also have a Dave Mathews DVD that is awesome too!)

Late to this thread.....
Quite a bit of the album Songs from the Choirgirl Hotel deals with Tori's miscarriage, but as far as I know nothing like that had happened before the release of Under the Pink, which she has described as being about the hidden dark side of women, especially in how they relate to each other.
I can never decide on a true *favorite* Tori album... it changes all the time.
I'm really loving Scarlet's Walk, though!
Anyone else?

I'm excited to hear that we'll finally hear new Sarah soon, also.... I really like her studio albums (especially "Fumbling..."), though the concerts that I've seen haven't been life-altering, or anything. (Although, I'm probably not being fair in comparing her shows to Tori and Ani diFranco, lol)

peace, alsoSarah

I really, really like Sarah too. Does anyone know if she's still married to the drummer? And if they had kids yet?
She is still married to her drummer and they just recently had a baby.

I love them both.
I really liked Strange Little Girls. It was such an interesting take on those songs, many of which i knew the original version of.

I think I like solace best from Sarah.

Looking forward to her new album.
