Any reason I should buy a pattern?

I used the Mama bird pattern last night, and I was happy with it, so I was thinking I'd stick with that. Except I'm going to figure out what kind of quick dry soaker I want to use--the dipe I made last night took *forever* to dry after I tested it (it held a half cup of water, so it was really soaked!) But I think I can figure that out--I'm thinking I'll attach an exterior soaker to the back of the dipe so I don't have to find a soaker, it will already be attached.

Now I'm looking at OSDS, and I have an order ready to go (I can't wait to check out the hemp french terry...). But I keep wavering...do I want to add the VB pattern to my order, or the cover pattern? If I am happy with the mama bird pattern...but what if I'm missing out on a really great dipe?

So tell me, what do you like about your pattern? Was it worth buying as opposed to using a freebie?

Thank you!

I've used the mammabird pattern, bought the poopockets pattern, the goodness gracious diaper pattern http://www.diapercuts.com/store/WsDe...p?Cat=Patterns (not offered at OSDS) and the diaper covers delux pattern. The two I REALLY REALLY like and keep comming back to are the mamabird pattern and the diaper covers delux pattern. I like them both a whole lot. With the diaper cover pattern it not only tells you how to make front closing, side closing and pull up covers, but there are online directions on how to make AIOs from it. I've made fitteds from the pattern as well. It is a very versital pattern with good sizing. I haven't tried the VB pattern, but I've heard good things about it.

Lots of people don't use patterns and do just fine and most people who do end up personalizing the pattern. I found it helpful to have one though.

You don't NEED a purchased pattern. The free ones are great! Or you can even draft your own! I actually started out with a pattern I drafted myself, and I love it. I got the VB fitted pattern, and while it's a good pattern, it doesn't fit DS as well as my own pattern. Then I got the VB AIO pattern. That one I really like on him! But again, my own pattern fits him great, so I didn't NEED it.

So if you have one that works, no, you don't need a purchased pattern. Sometimes it is fun to see what other diapers are like though. I'll probably get the DD AIO pattern one of these days, as I prepare for a hopeful newborn (TTC right now), and that way I can have a bunch of different options, in case one pattern doesn't fit the baby as well as others.

I made a few of my first diapers using the mama bird pattern. It just didn't work for us. I think it's because of the way my son is built - bigger thighs with a small waist. I invested in the Very Baby AIO pattern and I really like it. It fits my son well, and I've heard good things about it's fit on smaller babies, so I'm making my small stash with this pattern also. I really like, too, that the same pattern works well for AIOs, Pockets & Fitteds. Then again, I haven't tried any other patterns you have to pay for. Just the freebies online.
