oooooo...inserts....

I know, SO exciting But after failed diaper attempts, I realized that I need to practice my serging before making diapers (though for a beginner, it's not too bad.) Plus, I have like 8 Fuzzi Bunz that I don't have enough inserts for and the thought of paying over $5 for one insert when I have a yard of hemp jersey just sitting around...ridiculous!

So tonight, I made three inserts. They're three layers of hemp jersey, two layers of sherpa. I'm hoping they work well. My dd has been having leak issues and I'm wondering if she's just peeing so fast, all her hemp can't keep up.

I'm now going to go off and trace the Swaddlebees insert - I have a ultra-trim pocket from Beccabottoms that I love, but nothing fits in it well except the Swaddlebees insert and I have that up for sale now (because I need money to buy more material...it's a vicious circle!)

I know what you mean about the vicious circle! When I got back into CD'ing almost 6 months ago, I bought 14 FBs, 12 of those came with free Joey Bunz inserts, and the other 2 came with MOE inserts. Plus I got a HH Stuffin's to try. Once I started making diapers, I quickly sold some of the FBs to pay for fabric. I'm now down to 5 FBs, and hopefully I'll make enough here soon so I can sell those too... and buy more fabric...

Luckily, I had prefolds already, so once I made enough covers, I was able to use prefolds if I didn't have a fitted/AIO/pocket to use. I'd like to be all fitteds/AIOs though. I hate stuffing pockets, and while sometimes I get in a prefold mood, alot of times I just want to throw something on quick!

Dh was commenting that he really prefers AIO's. Especially those that have the inserts sewn in or snapped in and never unsnapped. He's a simple guy, lol! Of course, he did admit that pockets really aren't all that hard, and making easy to use inserts will make his life easier (as he has the hardest time folding the duz-it-alls.)

I did find a microterry cloth towel and made an insert for my Beccabottoms. Two layers of microterry, two of sherpa. So now I can sell that Swaddlebee, no regrets!

I'm going to make my second VB AIO tomorrow (got everything cut out and ready to sew up tonight! Yipee!), and I'll also make a couple AIOs from my own patterns (one T&T and one serged) - need to cut those out still. Then I should probably sell some more FBs. It's funny because when I put a FB on him, I don't trust it to last that long. I've had leaks with FBs on occasion (one Joey Bunz insert in there). In a prefold or a fitted, I know he can go a while without leaking. So I find myself using the FBs less and less. Yes, I could double stuff, but I hate single stuffing, and double stuffing is worse.

Oh, and the FB leaks have *always* been due to a soaked insert, so it was just an absorbancy problem, not a problem with the diapers themselves. They work great, despite not really fitting my DS well. But after making a VB AIO with velour inner... I hate to put that "rough" microfleece against his bottom. It's not really rough, but it's typical used microfleece. The velour stays soft wash after wash. Have I mentioned lately that I love velour?

Oh, I have found a new love in velour myself. Spend the past three weeks stalking Joann's, dragging whining little girls around, looking for velour. See, months ago, I bought some there that was 100% cotton. Used up all the pink. Wanted more. Didn't realize that this is something they don't regularly stock and turned my nose up at the 80/20 stuff. Realized that finding 100% cotton was a stroke of luck so decided to go back for the 80/20 velour. Only to find it was all gone. Hence, stalking. Finally they had some this week - pink and brown. Of course, I now need to find raspberry PUL to go with the brown velour...

And fyi, it was $9.99 a yard, a little more than you would pay at online shops, but adding in shipping fees, it's actually cheaper. And I need to start getting their coupons to make it even less.
