Anyone seen Curious George?

I'm thinking of taking my 3.5 year old...is it appropriate? Thanx.

We saw it tonight and liked it a lot. My older two are 5 1/2 and 3 1/2 and really liked it too. Found it to be pretty innocent and the tunes were cool. Little kids were dancing in the aisles. Here's a link to the review at common sense media.

We took ds, 4, yesterday. It is really sweet and not full of fart jokes, fighting, or what have you. They kept the animation to match the books, a bit, not all crazy cg and stuff. It seemed almost gentle! Jack Johnson's music is a nice consistent touch throughout. Ds loved it, as did dh. I was never a Curious George reader or fan, and I thought it was pretty cool.

That's what I wanted to hear I really don't enjoy CG but my boys do so this will be our first theater experience. I didn't want to be bored to tears

I haven't seen it yet, but figured it'd be fine for even the smallest young ones.

My youngest really wants to see it.

I haven't taken my lil ones to see it, but it does look really well made for an animation. And finally a cute cartoon without obnoxious jokes like Shrek.

We went to see it on Sunday. My 3 year old and 5 year old both really enjoyed it. It was cute and funny and not that long. There was a part where they put George in a cage and take him away for a bit, but it all ends happily.

I was going to ask about the CG movie too. Dd is 32 months and we were thinking of this being her first "real" movie. Glad to hear it's not too intense.

So many G-rated are still pretty violent and full of adult humor. Not a big deal for an older child, but not for a 2.5 year old.

We've been invited to see CG this Friday, and now I think we'll go.

My 6 year old is extremely sensitive, so a lot of things that most kids her age would not find troubling, she is very disturbed by. It's sort of like the whole experience can throw her off at times--the music being loud, the darkness of the set, and she can't stand any unkindness whatsoever, even if the person is doing it as a joke. So I still have to be careful what we pick. Our younger dd (3.5) is not as sensitive, but I think sometimes she watches things that then bother her later, which is almost worse. At least my older daughter will remove herself from something that is bothering her.

Thanks for the advice, all!

Spoilers alert! For Mia!

just FYI, there is a part where the man in the hat lets the animal control people take George away that is kind of sad, but he realizes in about 3 minutes that that was the wrong thing to do and goes to get him back.

Thanks, owensmom, for the heads-up! I'll keep it in mind. I am trying to balance some of my 6-year-old's sensitiveness with the socialization she will need, especially since she is now in school. She is starting to understand the difference between a bad thing that happens at one point of a story, which can lead to a good thing happening later.

It's a tough call, especially with media, which our family has a sort of love/hate relationship with anyway. But I guess that is a subject for another thread!

Thanks again,

Mia

Anyone think a 2 yr old (he'll actually be 2 in May) would be ok with this film and maybe actually sit through it?

All in all I think my ds is too young for his first movie. However he LOVES curious George. We have a volume of the cg stories and it's the only book he's chosen for the last 4 weeks! I am soooo sick of CG! LOL. Today dh brought home some Wendy's for dinner and Jake's kids' meal bag had CG all over it and he got soooo excited. He's never seen a movie before, at a theater or at home, and I don't really let him watch tv so I have no idea how he'll react. Do you think it's worth the money to get into the show?

Mia,
Not to hjack the thread, but my five year old is sensitive, too. We couldn't make it through Clifford's Big Adventure. She lost it when Clifford took off his dog tag and pretended to be a stray. Tears pouring down her face. It doesn't matter that he's going home eventually, she can't stand the tension and sadness. We've decided that there's no need to watch movies, and we'd rather introduce her to these emotions through books. (We've found some chapter books that have suspense, sadness etc., and it's easier to learn to handle it in a book.)

The only movies we watch are Mary Poppins and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers! After this thread, though, I think we might try Curious George when it comes out in DVD.

We saw it tonight. All in all we all thought it was great. Not offensive except that The Man With the Yellow Hat is exploiting African culture by taking a special statue to put in an American museum.
My six-yr old cried real tears when George was put into the cage and I thought it was sweet. I have no problem with tear-jerkers, I love them myself sometimes too.
I had two 3 yr olds with me and they both loved it too.
It was calm, cute, and stayed true, for the most part, to the original feel.

We just took my 5 year old and 3 1/2 year old sons to see this yesterday. It was a very sweet movie and they really enjoyed it. The only thing I would caution parents about is that one of the previews before the movie is rather scary. It's for the movie Monster House. It struck me as being like a horror movie for kids. Here's a link to the trailer so you can decide for yourself whether or not you think it would bother your kids.

Answering my own post...my son loved it - tho he did cry a few different times (he's very sensitive) I think the big screen in general is pretty overwhelming for him. Anyway, I also wanted to tell everyone to get the soundtrack by Jack Johnson - its SO awesome. Kid music I can dance to!

OMG, that trailer for Monster House would freak my ds out badly - thanks for posting that. I will be sure to not go into the theatre until the movie starts. I think it's so unfortunate that everything needs to be scary and intense these days.
