How much FOE for one large cover?

Hi, I wanted to try making a cover and using FOE, how much would I need for 1 cover?

I don't have a pattern, but from other covers I've seen is the general idea it goes around the whole cover and you pull it tighter around the legs and back to make it scrunch up in those parts...so there is no leaking?

Can I jump in on your question? I'm wondering about this too. And also wondering if it's ONLY FOE that's used or do we put elastic in the leg (and maybe a bit at the waist) area too?

I have not used FOE yet, but I just posted about it just the other day. From what I was told you just use the FOE and when you get to the legs and back, you just pull the elastic tighter. My post was called "Anyone use FOE?" Maybe that would help.

The FOE IS the elastic, you need no additional elastic. I think it takes about a yard give or take a few inches for 1 large cover. I didn't measure when I made that one last night, it also depends on how tight yo pul the elasitc thru the legs and back area, I pulled as tight as I could and it wasn't too tight for my dd thunder thighs. HTH.

Hi Lisa! It seems like all the really good diaper sources are American. We need to find someone to start one up here!! It's the shipping that bites, not necessarily the exchange rate (since the rate is much better than it used to be).

Whereabouts in Ontario are you? I'm in North Bay (about four hours north of Toronto and about the same distance from Ottawa).

I think it takes about 1 2/3 yds of FOE for a large cover. To get the elasticized legs/waist, just sink the needle into the FOE, then stretch the FOE and continue sewing. It's just like you do with regular elastic. No other elastic is needed - that's what the 'E' stands for in FOE.

The first cover I made, I only did elastic in the back and legs, and the front is horribly loose and icky. So now I pull it a little bit in the front too - not as much as in the back, but enough that it's not just floppy and loose, KWIM? The covers I've made like that are much much nicer.

Im a bit further south than you down near Owensound ...

I just found that Wazzoudle site...I haven't ordered anything yet, I've out done myself this week shopping! ieeee!

What's crazy is the cost of shipping in Canada, it's pathetic when it's actually cheaper to get material from the states cause the cost of shipping heres so much!

For diaper making I try and use alot of recycled material, but I'm real curious about using FOE, and I can relate to North Bay...here you can't get anything locally, you have to go to the city or mail order.

well it's nice to meet a local on line, keep me posted if you find Cdn deals, dido for me.

Peace

Will do Lisa! It's the duty/customs/hassle as well as the shipping sometimes; some shipping is awesome but I'm always worried about the border.

I have an ex that I often visit in Collingwood. I was to Owen Sound with him for the first time a couple of months ago.

I'll see if I still have a PM that was sent to me with a few Cdn sources and tips. I'll forward it to you if I do.
