Both those patterns are OS and with most OS diapers they don't fit newborns very well. OS diapers seem to start fitting at 10-12lbs (some diapes sooner, some later). Poopockets has a tiny poopockets pattern for newborns and you use the regular directions with it. I think gussetts are nice for newborns, but I don't think it matters if the gusset is on the fitted or cover. I used proraps with my newborn and LOVED them cause I could use fitted diapers or prefolds or whatever and they kept the messes in no matter what. (I hadn't started making diapers at that time). One thing to think about with the two patterns is that with poopockets you have to use a snappie or pins and with cuddlebuns you need a snap press. I had the poopockets pattern and ended up giving it to someone else, but that's because I HATE using snappis and pins

. It's a good pattern in general.
