Solution to Tab puckering with FOE

Ok, on the suggestion from Leosmama (shes so smart) this is how you do it.
You make the aplix hook (rough part of hook and loop) the exact shape of the tab all the way to the edge, (i didn't cut my hook big enough to extend towards the center of the cover so I had to add a square piece), after you cut it the same shape as the tab, attach it with a zigzag just on the straight part,no need to zigzag all the way around because you'll be binding it with the FOE. Attach your FOE as normal. Here is a picture of the one I just made and it worked, the tabs aren't puckered at all. Pay no mind to my crooked zigzag I still don't sew very straight. I need new glasses as dd broke both pair of mine.

Hm. Such a simple solution. I ordered 1.5" loop and 1" hook (as well as some 1" loop for laundry tabs). Maybe if I turn my hook on it's end so that the length goes up and down and is only 1" horizontal? (KWIM??)

The only problem with that is that sometimes the edges of the hook can scratch. If you're using 1" FOE then there is probably enough of a 'buffer' zone.

But if you'd like to get non-ruffly FOE wings - go really slowly and use a wider zig zag than what you have pictured and go closer to the edge. Try hard not to stretch the FOE around the curves. It takes practice but none of my FOE wings ruffle up - they used to though when I first started sewing with FOE.
