How can I find non-religious HSing groups?

We do not have any affiliation to any religion. The closets religion we follow or beleive in is Buddhism. We are very, very, very far removed from Christian/Catholic beliefs. We don't care what religion anyone else is we just don't want them talking about it in anyway around us or our children. (Meaning don't press it on us) SO I want to find a HSing group that is non religious. In all my searches all I can find are mainly Chrisitan based ones in our area. How do I find one that's not? I don't mean to offend anyone

I know it can be done, I don't know if it can be done in your area. I don't know where your area is. I belong to a group that includes all faiths (and lack thereof) and all homeschooling philosophies. Religious beliefs have been discussed at our park day, personal conversations, not group discussions. We have church-going god-fearing christians, and practicing pagans and adamant atheists all playing happily side by side. I found my group in a google search (actually found various homeschool sites that had resource lists). You could try search terms with your geographic location + homeschool group + inclusive and see if that helps. Good luck Candice.

Thanks,
Crystal

I don't know where you are at, but my friend and I-both bible believing christians- formed an ecletic homeschooling group for anyone one that homeschooled. We welcome anyone no matter what their religious beliefs are. Or how they homeschool.

Here's a link to fully inclusive groups in different states (there are certainly more out there, but maybe there'll be one in your area here):

The problem with support group listings is that no one list seems to be complete - so it's good to check all the large ones. Here are others to check:

This one used to have a policy of not listing groups that demanded a statement of faith, which I think is probably still their policy:

You can also find groups by going to
http://groups.yahoo.com/ and searching in the homeschooling groups. You might not find one for your specific area, but you can join a statewide or regional one and ask there.

And you can start one. There are others like you out there who would love to find one. Here are some articles on doing that:

http://www.nhen.org/support/leadership.asp?id=313

And this one mentions some resources specific to California but has more general ideas as well.

Well, I think I'm going to copy that post and tuck it away so I don't have to look up those urls again every time this question come up! - Lillian
