sissors and hair - yup

So the 4 year old cut the 2 year olds hair. I'm just livid, although I'm proud that i held my temper far better than I would have thought possible. I was nursing ds and shut my eyes while they were playing. Sissors were put up but lately nothing is truley out of reach for her. I'm at the end of my rope w/ her. I thought 3 was bad. Now she just smarter, stronger and bigger and just as difficult. We are so cooped up, it's cold snowy and we never go anywhere, so I know thats a big part of it, but thats how it is right now. On the good side, the danage is fairly well hidden, even tho I think she cut a lot, judging on how much came out when I brushed it. Is it warm out yet???!!!! : and going !!!

Hang in there. Someday you'll look back and laugh at the time dd gave her sister a haircut. When I'm feeling overwhelmed with my almost 4 year old I try to remember that at least she can't get into anywhere near as much trouble as she'll be able to when she's a teenager. Oy. Not looking forward to that!

My 7 yr old just cut her own hair about 2 months ago! I think all kids do this in some way. She had gorgeous waist length auburn hair and ended up with a shoulder length bob.

When I was about 7 or 8, I cut off my baby sister's bun, just lopped it right off the top of her head.

I promise, you'll laugh at this in time!

It must be a 4 thing ~ just this last week DS cut his sister's doll's hair, his own brand new sweatpants, and the fabric off the front of the stereo speaker !!!!! Scissors are now LOCKED away and taken out under strict supervision for a specific project.

When my youngest was a baby he had the cutest curls on top of his head. His 5 yo brother cut them off. He said he wanted him to have "normal hair" The oldest 2 have very curly hair that gets a lot of comments.

The old and youngest have also given themselves haircuts at different times.

It grows back.

My oldest did cut up some curtains once. Luckily they were old and were going to be replaced. I would have been uset if they were new.

No matter how well hidden or locked up the scissors are its bound to happen adn I promise someday you'll look back and laugh. The first time it happened to us was when my oldest at 3 years lobbed off most of her hair and it was really hard to straighten it out, ended up with a pixie. My DS did it and I just shaved his head. My youngest did it at teh end of the summer and it was ultra short. Best I could manage with her hair was a pixie cut, its FINALLY just long enough where I just cut it into a bob and its all almost the same length again. I just learned to keep lots of little barrets on hand to make them look "girly" lol. After the first one did it a couple times (cause after they lob the back they are bound to try for thier bangs) I got used to the idea that its just hair and will grow back. Hugs!

Thanks everyone, your right its just hair and it could have been much worse. I just never expected it from her as we have talked about this before when older cousin did it to dd. I just never expected this age to be like this. Why on earth do the 2 year olds get the bum rap, thats a great age!!

: This thread is hillarious. Yes mommas this is something you will look back at fondly when you are 70 and the kids are grown and gone. My ds is only 2 1/2 so he hasn't gotten to the "barber stage" of experiemental play, but I clearly remember being 4 years of age and shaving my 8 years old brothers eyebrows whilst we played "barber". When it was his turn to shave mine, I bolted. Even at the tender age of 4 years, I knew shaved eyebrows wasn't a good look for me

This hasent happened to us yet, but last year a friend called me hysterical. She was crying so hard I couldn't understand her. She mentioned her DS name and I thought, OMG he's dead!

It took me a whole minute to figure out he wasen't dead, she was crying because he had cut his hair (long and curly). Now I love this friend, but if she had been in front of me I would have smacked her for scaring the you know what out of me!

When my brother was 4 he cut the wiskers off my cat. I cried at night because I would picture her bumping into all the walls without her wiskers. They eventually grew back, poor baby!

My 5 year-old DS gave himself a haircut after we went to bed last night. Apparently he climbed up on the bathroom counter, got into the cabinet, and had fun with DH's beard trimmer. I really should have known something was up when he wanted to wear a hat this morning, but I was too tired to think anything of it. He gave himself a reverse mohawk.

Bummer! My 4 year old recently gave the cat a hair cut, and I couldn't help but think how it would have been a sibling if she had one.

I know they always say hair grows back, but never fast enough!

Oh man. My daughter gave herself a mullet when she was 3, with "child safety" scissors that supposedly only cut paper. Not so much. I walked in the house and her dad was sitting on the couch, ashen, holding a handful of hair, and said "it wasn't my fault".
She had just actually started to grow hair enough that I could put pigtails in, and then she gave herself an honest-to-god, business in the front/party in the back, mullet.

I cried, but then when I asked her why, she said she looked "fabulous". Hard to argue with that logic!

Sorry mama, it'll grow back, but I know that's little consolation.

I am so glad I read this thread. Just the other day, my two girls (2 and 3) decided to give themselves haircuts! I walked into the bathroom to find all this beautiful blonde hair all over the floor and I didn't react well at all.

I *know* it's normal, and something every kid does, but well, the SHOCK! So 3 yr old cut off all her bangs and 2 yr old cut a chunk out of the back of her shoulder blade length hair. She now has very generous layers, thanks to my very talented hairdresser!

He-He! One of by best friends did this to himself intentionally when he was 15, and we have pictures somewhere to prove it!

My six year old cut her hair a couple weeks ago. She wanted bangs. Doesn't look half bad, actually.

My older dd cut her hair when she was younger as well. She didn't do quite as well. Ended up in a trip to the salon for a bobbed hair cut. Her curly hair was down to the middle of her back It grew back, but it has never been quite as curly.

my DD cut her own hair when she was 2. she actually did it 2 times in the same week. i hadn't hid the scissors well enough apparently. later, it will be funny. but at first it sucks. i think all kids do this at some time. at least everyone i know has told me they have been through it.

My daughter cut her hair at just about 2 she took such a long time to grow her hair in the first place - her hair about her forehead ended up being about 5mm in length!!! It was awful for a LONG time - however, I can't complain as a friend of mine cut mine the first year I went to school - we have the school photos to prove it - which were taken the next day!! Needless to say when it was her turn to have her hair cut she looked at me and said no - we were in my grannie's downstairs toilet where she kept the sewing machine!! When we came out my gran said 'WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?????!!!!!' to which my reply was 'nothing' !!! Ha ha what a laugh. It's not the end of the world and it is bound to happen at some point! At least we can laugh about it just now.

So after meeting up with a mom I know today I feel LOTS better about the hair thing. Her 5 yr. old cut her own hair way off then moved on to her 2 yr old sister and really took off her hair - and she had never had a hair cut. Wow, seeing the damage that she did really made me appreciate the lack of damage that I'm dealing with. I knew that it could have been worse, but seeing the results that I could have had, well its nothing! So now I feel much better, tho bad for her.
