fcb fluffy mail diapers aio have a envolope in them to give them a pocket to add more absorbancy> how would I go about adding a pocket to my darling diaper AIO?

I've not seen an FCB, so don't know how they do theirs, but... One way to do it would be to sew your AIO as usual, except leave the back open. Add your elastic to the PUL portion (just fold it down and make a casing - you don't need to finish the edges), and optionally you could put elastic on the inner fabric too, but you don't have to. I'm assuming that these are AIOs with sewn-in soakers that also have a pocket so you can stuff them more, right?

An envelope AIO is basically an AIO with a pocket?? I just saw that term for the first time out in the main part of the board tonight.

That's what I'm *guessing*. I don't really know. I could be totally wrong. It'd be called an "envelope" since it's a design that gets around the pocket patent, and thus doesn't require a license.

Possibly. I've not seen a FCB either, but I have seen a different type of pocket-it was a Tender Beginnings. The back was all closed off, but there was a little slit cut about an inch below the back stitching, and it was serged all the way around, and that's where you stuff the insert. Maybe that's how the FCB's are? I wonder if that gets around the patent? Do you really have to purchase a licence to sell any kind of diaper that you "stuff"?

You have to purchase a license if you sell a pocket diaper with a leading edge opening, made of waterproof material and wicking material... IIRC. So if the back is sewn up and it has a slit down below that, it gets around the patent.

Fluffymail came up with the term Envelope because it went along with their mail/first class baby theme... not really anything to do with the opening style itself or the patent.

hmm, and I actually kind of like that idea better because it keeps the insert from ever hanging out. But I'm not really a pocket user anyway so I guess it doesn't matter. I wonder if this patent is forever, or if it will run out in a few years?

I really think patenting something you invent is a wonderful idea... but there were pocket diapers before fuzzibunz. Gerber made one in the 70's.

Looks a little *too* similar to the fuzzibunz if you ask me. Although there is no stay dry microfleece. The idea wasn't original.
I honestly don't get how it was patented.

and see if the inner isnt a stay dry liner i dont think the patent covers it The patent doesnt cover ALL pocket diapers.

Yes there were pocket diapers before, but when FB came out (and I remember it .. i had just started researching diapers) there was no one else who had done a PUL outer, microfleece inner pocket diaper. She was the first... and deserves the credit for that. The previous versions of a pocket diaper were also not widely known about or used. Who knows if they would be so popular now if it wasnt for her product and the marketing she has done for cloth diapers in general.
