DS sucking on his shirt--drives me nuts! - Page 2

My DS did this for a while, when he was around 2.5. I'm sure in many cases it is related to teething but in his case it was not. DD was born at that time but I don't know if it had anything to do with that, either. He would chew on the front of his shirt until it was soaked and all stretched out of shape. He did it all summer and then stopped when it got colder and he had to wear heavier clothes. I think in his case it was more of a sensory thing.

My daughter sucks on her collars and cuffs. She's going on 7.

She generally does it while she reads. She reads a lot, and she ruins clothes. It's a problem because she has a little sister who will need those shirts!

I harped and harped on it, until she pointed out that I twirl my hair while I read.

I offered her a washcloth one day, and it was an immediate improvement. Now she prefers washcloths; she only sucks on her shirt out of absentmindedness.
