Not babywearing = huge hassle

I babysat my niece today, and let me tell you, it would have been a 1000 times easier with a sling or at least a snugli or something. It's the first time she's ever been left with someone other than her grandmother (and she's so used to her that that doesn't really count). She was very tired, but needed a lot of walking around and bouncing and singing to go to sleep. No problem, she's not even 20lbs yet.

Except then she didn't want to be laid in the stroller that was left for her to nap in. She was absolutely fine as long as I held her. If I'd had a sling or carrier I could have continued to wander around the house and made myself tea and a snack or something, but nope, stuck doing things I could do one-handed and while I've got a lot of practice with that, a book is much easier to manage than a baby.

I totally agree! Without my sling I would have never gotten anything done with dd. Maybe you can give them one as a gift.

I agree. Lugging around a stroller is sucha hassle for me. I quickly stopped bring it anywhere.

I would have had to bust out a bedsheet or something, lol.

I seriously considered it. But, um, trying to figure out an improvised wrap for the first time ever with someone else's baby and sheets didn't seem like such a great idea. Now, when I've got my own babies, I'll become such a slinging pro that I'll just strap on another child and go when I babysit.

I've asked if they want one and they said no. I'm hoping to lead by example in the future.

Even if they don't want one, how about buying a secondhand carrier for yourself? You could use it now with your niece, and get in some good practice so you'll already be a slingin' pro by the time your little dc comes along!
