I babysat my niece today, and let me tell you, it would have been a 1000 times easier with a sling or at least a snugli or something. It's the first time she's ever been left with someone other than her grandmother (and she's so used to her that that doesn't really count). She was very tired, but needed a lot of walking around and bouncing and singing to go to sleep. No problem, she's not even 20lbs yet.
Except then she didn't want to be laid in the stroller that was left for her to nap in. She was absolutely fine as long as I held her. If I'd had a sling or carrier I could have continued to wander around the house and made myself tea and a snack or something, but nope, stuck doing things I could do one-handed and while I've got a lot of practice with that, a book is much easier to manage than a baby.
