Anybody know how to wear an amauti?

Does anybody know how to use, make or wear an amauti? Its the inuit version of the back carry with the hood coming up over mom and baby.I found some pictures on the web.I've been trying to figure out how large to cut the hood on shirt pattern I have, and the big question, how to the kids hold on? It sure would be nice to fix one for Joy and me when I'm out taking care of the goats.

In the Amaut the babe isnt actually in the hood, the hood is seperate and the babe is in a special area made into the jacket instead. With these the babe is not in a seperate carrier but rather the jacket itself. There are discussions about these at thebabywearer.com in the traditional babycarriers forum.

There are also other ways to get a similar affect. Like wearing a Mei Tai with Babywearing jacket or poncho worn OVER the carrier. I have a Poncho I wear over mine and love it!

Hope that helps!
