ergo style?

I use my wrap and mai tai for back carries, but my dh is struggling a bit.** I thought it would be nice to get him something that is easy on/off like the ergo, but would prefer to buy wahm or if I can't find a wahm than something cheaper than the ergo (to clarify....I don't mind investing a chunk of change in a wahm product...just would prefer to not drop that much on a non-wahm product. clear as mud, eh?)

anyway...any suggestions? something soft structured with backpack style straps and waist belt?

I'm thinking of just taking apart an old backpack and frankensteining something myself if all else fails...anyone done this?

**maybe it's not completely fair to my dh to say he struggles....he does an awesome job, but I think both of us would like another alternative to our mai tai and wrap

Hey mama, I'm in the same boat. Looking for an alternative for my wrap, mainly for dh. someone on babywearer.com suggested a Jackpack. From what I can tell from the website, it's a mei tai but with buckles and straps instead of ties. Another one I saw was bebe tai--same idea mei tai body but with buckles, I'm not sure if this was wahm, but I'm pretty sure the Jackpack was.

is that patapum a wahm carrier? It looks a lot like my ergo.....

You might check out the bECOpack on http://www.ecobabies.com. I sent in some fabric and am having one made. I may be getting it late this week or early next week. I'll let you know what I think. So far, Gabby at ecobabies has been wonderful to work with.

A Mei Tai of some sort?

A Patapum is not WAHM made and it is almost identical to the Classic Ergo

IMO the Ergo has a much shallower learning curve for backcarries than a MT or wrap. At least for my dh, anything he had to work too hard at figuring out wasn't going to happen, babywearing-wise, so this was an important consideration for me!

Anyway, the people at Ergo came out with a new model this past year, and so are selling the classic design on their website for a little more than half price, which might make it more affordable for you.

HTH!

Yes, my dh cannot be bothered with the wrap either (except when I tie it on for him!) Have you looked at the Mei Hip? I've never tried on the Ergo, but the Mei Hip is a great carrier for dads. It has buckles so you don't have to fiddle around with tying. And the shoulder fabric and hip straps are great. Or the HipHammock.

Well I just got a Infant Patapum last week and am loving it...how on earth did I survive the last few months without it.

I have used wraps and pouches for about 2 years now but decided that I needed something for back carry's with a 6 month old who needs to be held all the time and a 2 year old to run after and the house work piling up.

My pouches and wraps have their uses and will still be used often but around the house it will be my Patapom or my soon to be mailed Jackpack Baby Carrier
So far I am loving it...it looked more compact and sleek then the Ergo which is very important as under 5 foot Mama..extra bulk would drive me crazy. It has no pocket but that is fine for me.The sleeping hood works well but I can not figure out how to attach it by myself.

I am ordering my JackPack for style though as plain navy blue makes me blend in with the crowd and I hate that lol.

I am lusting after the bECO XO Simply because it folds into itself when not in use and my Patapum does not but that is a little thing really.
