Serenity - the movie

DH and I watched "Serenity" last night. I never caught the series it was based on, called Firefly. I really enjoyed it. Parts were super fantastic, the dilogue was brilliant sometimes and cheesy other times, and some of the flashes of images were horrifying... but overall I enjoyed the heck out of it, what a ride, and what a story they have to tell by the end.

Just wondered if anyone else had seen it!

Heck yeah! Firefly is out on DVD, too. 14 episodes. I strongly recommend that you find them and watch them.

I'm now a huge Joss Whedon geek as a result of this series. Coming into it late, but dh and I have been watching our way through Buffy.

Oh, another suggestion. If you like Anime at all, I noticed a strong Cowboy Bebop influence on the Firefly series.

I've seen the film. I enjoyed it. DH rented it from Blockbuster a few weeks back. I hadn't seen the TV show so I was completely clueless about the backstory but it's not really essential to know it. I understood the film without knowing why they were all out in space. The flashes of images of the cannibalistic people were terrifying but the cool, calm ninja assassin fellow with the British accent was even creepier.

For a while this show started Sci Fi Fridays, we enjoyed it. And enjoyed the movie.

Dh and I have been Firefly fans ever since the first episode aired on Fox. We were majorly upset when Fox KILLED it. There's no other conclusion, they put it in a horrible time slot, then they interrupted it to air STUPID stuff no one was interested in, then they canceled it before they'd even AIRED all the episodes. It was like they were trying to see how quick they could make it fail.

We bought the DVDs as soon as they came out. We went to the movie opening weekend. We don't dress up as characters, like we heard of some people doing LOL!!!

The whole concept is so interesting and unusual. The music is incredible. The dialogue is humorous and memorable, not to mention very quotable. What's not to like?

I am to misbehave!

This thread is very old, but it was before my time at MDC. So, as a diehard Browncoat, I just had to revive it and say that I am SO glad to see some fans here! Serenity was awesome, gorram it!

I don't know why, but I have been on a Firefly kick again lately. I've watched all of the episodes, and the movie, twice in the past month. We (obviously) have a television and a DVD player, but no cable and no antenna, so we don't watch anything in the way of new TV. But who needs it?!? Especially since every time there is something interesting, intelligent, witty, and engaging on ... they immediately cancel it and replace it with another "reality" show. I just get sucked back into the 'verse all of the time, and I swear I discover something new to love about it every time I watch.

Anyone close enough to go to the Browncoat Ball in San Francisco next month? I think I'd love that! I am such a geek!

DH recently got DVDs of Firefly. Now I'm totally into it and the show is not on TV anymore! : I loved the bits of Chinese they would throw into the dialog, the interesting predicaments they would get themselves into and out of. I wanted to see the romance between the Captain and the Companion aboard Serenity. Actually I wanted so much to learn more about the Companions. I want the Sci-Fi Channel to pick up the series but I guess there's not a chance of that happening.

Am I the only one who loves the opening song from the series? :

Ds loved the movie, but I have only seen bits and pieces.

I loved the series, the movie was fantastic but much muuuuch creepier to me... haunted me actually! But I loved it anyways. What a shame that they killed it. This and Futurama!

I was upset Joss let Kaylee get so thin for the movie.

There's a Browncoat Ball in SF??? DETAILS!

San Francisco Browncoat Ball

More fans here who watched the series and the movie after the fact. Dh saw the movie in the theater with a friend, knowing nothing about it. A few months ago we rented the series on Netflix. What a fantastic show!

Anybody disappointed to not learn anymore about Shepard Book? They hinted that he had a not-so-pastoral past, with his knowledge of wepons and bad guys. I thought they'd reveal his story in "Serenity" but they never really did.

I heart Kaylee!

Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me
Take me out to the black
Tell 'em I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me
There's no place I can be
Since I found serenity
But you can't take the sky from me

Ahh yes. Love the theme song.

Actually Sci Fi did show all the firefly episodes right around the time Serenity came out.

I LOVED seeing Morena Baccarin on SG-1 last week.

I think it'd be great if SciFi made more Firefly shows. Better than WWE wrestling for sure. What is UP w/that?!

Well, here's hopping that they make a sequel, and find some way to bring up Shepard Book's story.

I'm pretty sure JW is on record as saying he won't be pursuing that story/universe any more... And even if he did, it wouldn't have the same cast dynamics as what made the original series so great.

I Firefly!

I had "Time for some thilling heroics!" as my sig for a while.

"The hero of Canton
the man they call JAYNE!!"

Sci-Fi actually now owns Firefly but no telling what will come of it.
