How do non vaxers handle working in the medical field?

I've been in school a whole week and a half. It's driving me crazy. It seems like all we hear/talk about is vaccines. From how we need them to work safely, how wonderful they are, to the history of them, ect. Then people get into their personal stories and I have to hear about how it took four nurses to hold down one ladies one year old child for his shots. I try and tell myself that I don't care about other people, let them be ignorant. I'll slip in thoughts/info when appropriate and maybe get somebody thinking. I already educated a small group of 18 year olds on homebirth. They honestly had no idea that was possible, do-able, legal, ect. I guess I'm ranting here. But I know there's a lot of nurses here. How do you not go crazy? I know I just have to let it go, but it's making my blood boil when teacher says things like "no children ever get chicken pox since the law came out that everyone must be vaccinated against it, maybe they'll get a spot or two, but there have been no cases of actual chicken pox since the shot".

I don't know... It would make my blood boil too.
I guess you could start being the loud mouth that contradicts the teacher with facts when she says crap like no cases of CP since the vaccine. Polietly of course... "I'm sorry, what you are saying is not correct. The CDC puts out data on infectious disease and the most recent data is that there were blank cases of blank in the 2005. Here is the website and here is a print out. I really can't allow my classmates to believe what you are saying is the truth when it simply is not."
Of course you risk an F... I stood up to a Religion Professor in college, older going to college has it's benefits. He actually had a lot of respect for me for doing so. I can't say the same goes for me, I think he is doing Christianity a horrible dis-service at a so called "Christian" university. My uncle went to a college like this and walked away from religion for it.
Anyway, bravo for going back to school and know there are those supporting you here.

The thing that is so distressing is the subtle conditioning process.

If something was that good, you wouldn't have to ram it down people's throat.

It seems that its always the trash of this world that is advertised on TV and shoved into education syllabuses.

And look where it has really got the world?

When I worked in the med field I NEVER took the vaxes they offered. I was offered the Hep vax for free as well as flu etc. I always refused. Nobody really made a fuss about it. As far as the fact that once you get out into the field they sort of expect you to push them? I never did. Not even tetanus. I have seen many people in my life have extremely adverse reactions to certain vaxes and I really don't put much faith in them.

It's just like anything else. There will always be certain things you don't agree with no matter what field you're in. Actually I didn't really get much vax info at all in school so that wasn't an issue so much. There are a lot of other irritating issues in healthcare though that I did face regularly. If you're going to do it then you just have to know those things are going to be there & decide whether it's something you're willing to work around. For me, it's all about the consumer having the freedom of informed choice. It's not really my concern what treatment they ultimately choose so much as whether they had the opportunity to make an informed choice.

As an LPN working in hospice & nursing homes -It never really comes up for me directly since I do not actually give the vaxes .
But I do see what the medical field pushes --at nursing home s,the Flu & pneumococcal vaxes --in the office ,offerring the Hep B series to new employees.

I have actually told a few nurses what I believe in ( Religious bent here --explained that I do not want a flu vaccine or TB tests-that my kids are not vaxed ,etc)
I have not actually changed anyones mind that I know of but hey -information that makes one think that maybe not EVERYONE flollows along blindly cant hurt.

For the sake of your grade and reputation, it is not a good idea to embarass the professor, although, G-d knows I have had more than my share of professors who deserved to be called on the drivel they have delivered to a poor group of students who just want the three/four/five credits with a decent grade and move on to graduation and to their degree without a hassle. And those professors know it!

However, now that I have my degree, my credential, and I can goof off, I have actually fantasized about doing just that since who cares what kind of grade I get now? I am older than most of those snot-nosed punks who call themselves professors and I am tired of them screwing up the thinking of younger people. G-d knows they tried to screw me up and they were not entirely successful, now were they??

What fun I could have!

I can go to the education classes and advocate for homeschooling and the abolition of the public school system; I can advocate against vaccination in the education, history and science classes; and as some of you know, I am rather conservative , yes, in my politics, so I can really be incendiary : in almost any classroom in any branch of academia on any campus in this country. and I'd be done! Poke me with a fork...
