baby hammocks

has anyone here used a happy hangup or amby baby?

i am wondering about spending the money to get one of these.

my son was *very* high needs and *only* napped (for 25 minute stretches) in his swing, course we had to stop using it when he was 4 months old. the rest of the time mommy had to be holding him.

the hammock you can use until they are like three!

just wanting some feedback...

I just heard about these not too long ago, my dd was very high needs also, and would only nap in her swing or if I was rocking her. So that seems like a good option. It is pretty expensive, though unless you really need it (and I'm SO hoping I don't!). But, if my next kid is "high needs" like the first, I might order one .

I bought the Amby Baby Hammock during my pregnancy with DS in 2004. I read about it reducing SIDS, and it looked really cute. I bought it online somewhere. I was so excited when it arrived - I put it together, washed all the fabric, and got it ready for our newborn. When we put him in it the first night home from the birthcenter, he cried and cried. He didn't seem comfortable (he was a big baby - 22 inches, 10.5 pounds). We tried several times in the first months, but he ended up in a bassinet on his belly (refused to sleep on his back due to reflux). My friend just had a baby a month ago - and I loaned her the Amby Baby hammock in hopes that it would get some use finally. She had a tiny little baby (5 pounds, 19 inches), and said that when she put him in it he was swallowed by the hammock and cried! So they were not able to use it either. I have held onto the hammock, but I'm disappointed that it has not worked with two different babies. I'm not going to sell it quite yet, as I'm hoping this next baby will take to it. I don't know whether or not to tell you to buy one based on this - but it is an expensive experiment if the baby doesn't like it. Then again, if they do like it - it is a cute piece to have. well, honestly, i can understand that a newborn put in there at night to sleep would cry.

i think newborns belong with their mama at night.

i will co-sleep with this baby, but am hoping for something for naps other than a conventional swing...

my son took 2-3 25 minute naps in his swing when he was a newborn. it was tough to do anything other than take a shower the first 5 months of his life!

i am hoping for something a little less stressful this time around!!

i would sell your hammock, they have an excellent resale value on MDC trading post and on ebay.

We did end up cosleeping with my son -which is perfect for newborns. It was during the day that I wanted to put him in the hammock (like a swing) that it didn't work. That first night we tried to put him in there because I had just given birth about two hours before and needed to sleep very deeply. He had other plans and came into the bed with us right away. I will try the hammock one more time with this baby and then probably sell it.

Just like most baby gadgets, I think it's a little silly to buy one before you need it. *Most* babies are content just being with mama. Certainly some babies are high needs and might benefit from using a particular gadget, but you can't know that until the baby arrives. And although it's tempting to assume that subsequent children will be just like the previous child, it doesn't often work out that way; babies have a funny way of acting like *themselves* and not necessarily the baby you envisioned

With a spendy item like that, I'd definitely wait and see if it's something you actually need before buying it. But that's just me, and I prefer to get by with what I already have before going out and buying something new.
