I don't know what is going on in this house, but after the falling-off-the-ball incident - tonight we had another major scare. DS was eating raisins and started choking. His face turned dark red and his tongue was turning blue. This was after DH came home and thank goodness he was holding the baby, who of course was crying during all this. I ran out of the kitchen over to DS and did my best to perform CPR-stuff on him. Basically I picked him up and whacked him on the back. I guess it worked because the lump of raisins came out. There must have been about 10-16 raisins in the lump (I didn't realize that there was a lump until about 10 minutes later when DS brought it to me and said it came out of his throat into the raisin bowl). Anyway, once again, everyone is fine. But I cannot tell you how terrible this whole incident was.
We even took an infant CPR class before Kali was born. Though in the heat of the moment not much of that came back to me. I'm going to go review as soon as I can.
So, now I am posting this in the hope that everyone who reads it will do their homework and figure out how to deal with choking before it happens. Its amazing how we pay so much attention all of the time and normally nothing happens. I wonder sometimes if I am paying too much attention, but something like this tells me, no, there is no such thing as too much attention...
The only good thing is that about 1/2 hour later, DS told me "I'm sorry Mama." That was very very sweet.
