We went in for our 39 week appointment today. The doctor did the exam and noticed something seemed different. Turns out the baby has flipped back around, and is now head up again. We had a quick sonogram to confirm it. (Keep in mind the baby had been turned, dropped & engaged since week 34.)
So we were given 2 options:
1-Have a c-section
2-Schedule a time for them to try to manually move the baby back to head down position. Doctor said this has about a 40% success rate. If it succeeds, they will induce labor. If not, they will proceed with a c-section.
We went with option 2. We are scheduled to go in to the hospital Thursday, Feb 16 at 6:30am. The process will start around 7:30am.
I had actually asked the doctor about this possibility at my 38 week exam. Sometimes the baby would get to moving so much, I was concerned about her flipping around. Doctor said it was unusual at this stage but could happen. And it did. What a little stinker baby! I also had a feeling something would be not quite right at this appointment. Usually I look forward to the latest news on progress, but this time I was dreading the appointment.
This also means we won't get to use the birth care center we were hoping to use. Now we are being sent straight to the hospital instead.
So now I am off to do some reading. First I want read up on movements & exercises I can do to encourage her to flip back around. Then I will read up some more on c-sections. I was starting to feel pretty confident we wouldn't need one, since the baby's head was so well engaged & dropped. Well, at least everyone is still healthy! I am very thankful for that.
Wish us luck... Hoping this baby goes back from
