Hi! Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm due 09-27, but my Ayla was born 19 days late so I could possibly end up giving birth with you wonderful ladies!

Hi Sabrina,
Welcome to our group. I actually peaked over into the September group and said 'hello' as well, since I'm right pretty close (Oct. 4th).

19 days late, yikes; I remember being in tears when I went a week past my due date.

So how far along are you exactly and how are you feeling?

Haha, yes 19 days was a bit of a challenge. I had bleeding stretch marks etc... yikes. Also, Ayla looked like a 3 month old baby when she was born!

Right now I'm just over 8 weeks and I'm feeling wonderful this far, no complaints as of yet!

Welcome blissful_maia. I've thought about posting in Sept as well because my midwife says I'm due at the end of that month... but my Ria went almost exactly 40 weeks gestation (counting on the calendar from when we actually CONCEIVED, not when the calculators figure it). According to my DD, I was 11 days late... so I feel for ya, though I'm glad I wasn't THAT far over. Congratulations on making it so long... I would have probably gone stir crazy... was starting to and my midwife swiped my cervix (didn't know what it was... wouldn't have let her if I did, but in a small way glad it happened anyway).

How much did Ayla weigh? Great name, by the way... one of my favorite characters in a series of books is Ayla! My Ria was 8 pounds 4 ounces, so not bad for such a "late" bloomer. heeheehee

Thanks, The Clan of The Cave Bear was where we got her first name!

Ayla was 8lbs 15oz... almost, but not quite. However, where most babies lose 10% of their birth weight in the first week, Ayla lost no weight and in fact weighed exactly 10lbs at 1 week.

What your midwife did was what we would call a "stretch and sweep", I've had to do a few of these as a student and also have had two done myself. Not so nice, huh? Basically, the midwife is stretching your cervix while at the same time separating the membranes from the uterine wall around the cervix. No wonder it doesn't feel good!

Have you read any of that author's following books?? Ayla has lots of adventures following her departure from the Clan of The Cave Bear. Unfortunately, thus far she doesn't again encounter Derk. I'm hoping she will in the next novel.

Yeah, I sort of made my midwife tell me what it was she did cause it hurt so flippin bad. I just wish she would have TOLD me those details before she actually did it. Ya know? *sigh* I do think she thought I knew what it was... didn't, but I knew so much else that it's about right that she wouldn't think twice about throwing out a phrase like "swiping your cervix now". ahwell live and learn!

So, are you a midwife? cool... I would love to get into the field myself. Maybe some day.

Welcome to the group!

19 days over... you're my hero! I was, thankfully, 'early' with both the boys. I say 'thankfully' because they were 10lbs 6oz and 10lbs 4oz, respectively. I am VERY thankful

I'm wishing you earlier-birth vibes this time, mama!
