The baby voice makes my hairs stand on up on my neck

It is like nails on a chalkboard when my 4 year old son uses a ee-eh-ee-eh, high-pitched, nerve rattling baby voice. I know it is because he has a younger brother, but I'm having a tough time waiting for it to pass without becoming irate. Can somebody give me a coping mechanism?

Coping mechanism? Try to picture your grown child wearing a diper, sucking a binky and saying "goo goo gaa gaa". It always cracks me up and I forget to be irritated. O.k thats probably strange, and not what you ment.

Usually I smile and say "Can you use your regular voice please?" This is my 6yo by the way.

I hate to say it but I know many 5 and 6yo's that still do this. It's normal. I have one friend who absolutly hates it and is constantly pointing it out to her son. He seems to do it the most.

Thank you! I am surprised that all I needed to hear is that it is normal, even though intellectually I already knew it.

My 7yo uses a "baby voice" occasionally and it drives me bonkers. She thinks it's "cute." This isn't a very MDC-like approach, but I say to her, "PLEASE stop talking in the baby voice, I CANNOT understand what you are saying." I tried ignoring it and she just kept doing it, so now I use the other approach.
