Baby hates the hotsling

Hi,
My two month old really seems to HATE the hotsling. It does seem to feel pretty tight when I put him in there. Is this how it should be? This is a baby who never likes to swaddled, and I sense that he is feeling too confined. He wants to be held all the time, so I was really hoping he would like a sling. He does seem to like the Baby Bjorn (but only when moving fast OUT of the house). He does not sleep out of my arms and it would be great to find something that he could nap in while I could do some things around the house. Should I may be try a wrap? Any other suggestions?

Thanks so much,
Jane

My little guy is 2months old as well and he loves to nap in our pouch sling. Maybe you just have to experiment with positioning your baby so he's a little more comfortable. Now that DS is bigger and older, I do have him lying more upright rather than in the cradle carry, which he enjoyed as a newborn. Though it seems like a tight squeeze at first, DS loves the cozy environment and falls alseep more quickly in the pouch then in any other carrier I have. He might complain for a couple of seconds but is soon fast asleep and often sleeps for a couple of hours.

My little guy is 6 weeks and I have to do a couple of quick laps around the house after I put him in to get that rocking sensation going and get him to fall asleep. He's not happy if I just put him in and stand still. Once he's asleep though I can do anything. You might also try putting a small receiving blanket behind him - fold it up a little and it will lift him up enough to see a little more. Or try the tummy to tummy carry - he's young enough that you'll have to keep his legs tucked inside still, but that'll give him a little more room to look around. Then if he does fall asleep you can kind of tilt him down to be a little more secure.

I also found that the Hotsling felt tighter than my other pouch sling, a Kangaroo Korner fleece one. He loves the KK pouch but, in the Hotsling, especially in the Kangaroo carry, he makes this little coughing sound like "It's too tight in here, mama!"

You might want to just try another design.

I'm hoping to still use the Hotsling for hip carries, especially in the summer when he's older and it's too warm for the fleece one!

When our DS was two months he didn't like the cradle carry any more and wanted to sit upright. We stopped using our hotslings and switched to a hugabub stretchy wrap which is very supportive for an upright young baby. We LOVED the stretchy wrap and would highly recommend it. Much more comfy than the Bjorn for both baby & parent IMO, and great for baby to sleep in!! Another stretchy wrap is the Moby wrap, it is similar and a lot cheaper than the hugabub. BTW, our DS always hated being swaddled too (even as a newborn).

my ds is 3 months old and doesn't like the cradle carry anymore but really enjoys being tummy to tummy deep in the pouch. We have a fleece HS and it's pretty squishy/stretchy. He takes his best (and majority) of naps like that. He also really likes the high back carry in my Kozy MT. I just ordered a gypsy mama wrap so we'll see how he takes to that. I've heard they are more comfortable than MTs once you get the hang of them. My only wrapping experience is with the moby and I never really liked it because of the stretchiness of the fabric.
Anyway, I'm planning on getting a used size 4 hotsling in reg fabric (not fleece) for when the weather is warm. I'm not sure if we'll still like pouches then ( I hated the non stretchiness of the new native) so we'll see.

Hmmm, thanks for all the advice. I think we need to explore a different type of carrier. This is so confusing! And I may just have a size 4 regular fabric hotsling for sale soon .
