My 6-year-old son's teacher pulled me aside today and said we really need to work with him to become more organized at school. She said he scatters his papers and supplies around and needs help to find them.
I'm so embarrassed, as I'm sure I have "enabled" him to get to this point by picking up after him too much at home. But I can't do anything about the past, so where do I go from here? Partly it's just his personality to be messy, I think, but is there a way I can help teach him organization skills?
In the past, we have occasionally tried routines like "if a toy is left out at the end of the day I'm putting it in the garage and you won't be able to play with it for x days" but he really doesn't care all that much about "stuff" so these routines never seem to help much.
