He's "afraid to poop!"

According to our pediatrician, Stuart is afraid to poop.

We're trying so hard not to laugh at the little guy!

Seriously, though, we went for the 2month appt. today and told him about the colic. The dr. said that sometimes when they transition to 1 or 2 poops a day, they get all constipated because they don't realize that pooping relieves the bloating and full feeling. So he said they get all tense in the legs and arms and worried and hold it in extra long, causing lots of screaming and colic.

He suggested a warm washcloth right when we notice it starting to gurgle. We tried it this afternoon when he woke up upset from his nap after 5 minutes. I put the washcloth on for about 15 minutes and then massaged in circles for about 5 minutes. Then suddenly he pooped a HUGE amount! Now he's nursing to sleep very comfortably. I sure hope it keeps working this well!

I just thought I'd post because I knew that several of you had similar symptoms (pushing with legs and flailing arms during nursing, lots of screaming, waking up suddenly from naps) and had been trying to figure it out. You may want to give it a shot and see if it helps.

Tharen has been having this problem, I just attributed it to the reflux, but he is also only pooping once every four days or so. So how do I do this? Massage his tummy with a warm wash cloth?

I put the warm washcloth on him when I heard it start to gurgle. I used to think this was gas, but it must have been the poop moving through him. I kept it on for about 15 min. while I was nursing. Then I massaged him gently in clockwise circles. It only took about 10 min. or so of massage before he went.

Now it's only worked once (first time I tried it), but it might be worth a shot for you.
