What carrier to nurse newborn??

Hi, I am due in August and wondering which carrier is best for newborn nursing. I started wearing Jacob at around 6 mo and it was easy in just about any carrier. The other day I babysat a friends newborn for a while and tried to carry her in the maya wrap sling but it was SO difficult - Id never doen it with a floppy baby before!

I live in hot humid Houston so I really cant handle being all wrapped up in layers of fabric. I love the quick in and out of my maya and never really got a lot of use out of my Ultimate Baby Carrier. So Im thinking about a sling type vs a wrap. Maybe something with some padding?

Ok, moms, what do you think?

How covered do *you* want to be. Is it an issue for you too be showing while you nurse, or do you not care if you let it all hang out? lol

I love my Kangaroo Korner pouch and it is so nice and snug that I always felt really secure with nursing, babe was supported and all. But because there isn't a tail, or a bunch of extra fabric, you don't have alot of modesty built in. Good thing I am not very modest...

I second the vote for the Kangaroo Korner pouch. I have the fleece one and I have used it since day one for nursing my DS. He prefers a more upright position for nursing and the KK pouch keeps him positioned right at chest level. Also, in those early days, I would pull up the fleece around his head so that it would provide some neck support although I would always hold him, too.

Now that he has better head/neck control, it's even easier!

I notice that your babe will be born in August in Houston which may be a little warm for fleece. So, perhaps some other pouch-style carrier in a more breatheable fabric would be a better bet!

I guess around home I dont care at all about modesty and when I go out - which isnt often with a newborn I can wear my one super fancy nursing shirt. So I will check out the KK pouch.

Bella Babe - what fabric did you have. I definitely cant do fleece.

When my daughter was a newbie I successfully nursed with her in my hotsling. It was my first experience with babywearing and nursing was a breeze.
