I know I don't post much in this section of Mothering but wanted to share.
Gabrielle Elizabeth
Born 2/6/06 @ 5:53 pm
7 pounds 11 oz
19 3/4 inches long
I was going to attempt a VBAC but things didn't work out. My OB wouldn't induce me and didn't want me to go past 41 weeks. My inlaws where in town and I was running out of time. So I had her via c-section.
I was sad at first but things worked out for the best. Gabrielle had jaundice and ended up under the Bili lights. If I had a vaginal birth I would of been discharged from the hospital already. So with the c-section my husband and I were still there with her. The Hospital nurses even moved the equipment into my room so we would be with her rather than have her in the nursery. We came home with a Bili blanket, but that only lasted for 24 hours. Yeah!
Breastfeeding was a struggle for me with my son. Both physically, mentally and emotionally. I had alot of things go wrong (in my eyes) and was very depressed and ended up on meds for a short period of time. So this time I was desperate to make BF work.
While under the lights (my milk hadn't come in yet) we were able to take her out 30 minutes at a time to feed her. I would put her to breast, then when we ran out of time we would put her back under the lights and my husband would finger feed her with formula (then my milk when it came in). While he did that I would pump. It certainly was a challenge, but it worked!
As of this past Tuesday she is completely off of formula and 100% on the breast.

I have to say without the support of the Hospital staff, my nurses (except for one terrible night nurse and one terrible nursery nurse) and a wonderful LC department we wouldn't of made it. They took really good care of us.
I have a follow up appointment tomorrow with the LC department at the hospital. They have been awesome. Unlike the bad LC and nurse experience I had with my son and the hospital he was born at.
Thank you for letting me share my story.
