My birth at Special Beginnings was the most positive experience of my life. I had some complications- water breaking 3 days before ctx with light meconium, but it was treated with...
My mom gave me this for Christmas and I absolutely love it. Gorgeous illustrations and very sweet ideas inside. Plus it's just structured enough so that I can be creative about what I include...
This is the prettiest carrier, and fit my shoulders and figure (at 5'6") much better than the Ergo. I got it when my daughter was about nine months, two years ago - it doesn't appear to have...
This potty is great - excellent value & performance! (plus it's cute!) My 9 month old DS took to it right away. He is a big boy (30 in. tall - feet not quite on floor - & 27 lbs.) and this is...
Hi, my baby is 12 months and weighs about 23Ib's, I have been using a ring sling but it hurts my shoulder after a while. i was thinking of a moby wrap, what do guys think?
I own an Ultimate Baby Wrap which is just like a Moby except it uses a ring. I used it until dd turned 2 and decided she didn't need to be carried all the time. This was my full time carrier after she hit 17 lbs. Like you, I couldn't deal with the shoulder pain. I've since lent it out to friends who complain about having to carry their growing babies. All of them are now converts.
The learning curve is high whether you get a Moby or the Ultimate Baby Wrap. But once you figure it out, you'll wonder why you didn't make the switch sooner. You'll find your back and shoulders will no longer be in pain.
I'm looking into getting an Ergo Baby Carrier for baby #2 and in case dd (who will be 3 then) needs to regress a bit because of the new baby. [Edited to add:] The Ergo has a slightly higher weight capacity than my Ultimate Baby Carrier wrap.
I used a Moby Wrap with my baby when she was a newborn and up to 6 months old, but I can't imagine using it with her now (she is 15 months). I just don't think I would be able to hold a larger baby in the Moby due to the height of the older baby. The Moby sits pretty high, at least the way I always used it.
I'm not the most experienced sling-er though, so take my experience with a large grain of salt.
I would avoid a stretchy wrap since they aren't too supportive for heavier babies. I'd suggest a german stryle wrap such as a Storch, Didy, or Girasol. They are very supportive and comfy to wear. Mei Tais are also a good choice since they are two shoulder carriers and distribute your DC's weight better.
I have a moby and only use it for back carries in a pinch w/ my dd who is 9 months and 24lbs. I use my mei tai religiously now. it easier than the moby and folds up better. I used the moby all the time when she was little but its not as comfortable now.
I agree with pps who said a Moby wouldn't work that well for you now - not supportive enough for a heavy baby/toddler. But a woven wrap would work great - Ellaroo, Storchenwiege, Girasol, Bebina, Didymos, etc.
I think the stretchy mayb e too stretchy once they get bigger. I'd lean more towards a woven wrap, mei tai or onbuhimo. Mei tais and onbuhimos I fine easier than wraps but I'm wrap impaired, lol. They are all very supportive and can be used well through toddler hood. I still use both a mei tai and onbuhimo with my 3 year old.
