Help me not give up on the family cloth...tmi

I just started using the family cloth (old cut-up t-shirts and baby washcloths), and I like the softness, but I'm having a problem. The cloth I'm using isn't, well, absorbant enough. I have to blot rather than wipe (I'm talking pee here), and I'm getting pee on my hand! Yuck! And I don't feel as dry as I would like after. Any advice?

Sounds like maybe you just cut them too small for the absorbancy. Try using 2 at a time. Or, if they are big enough, fold them for more thickness (just like you would with TP). HTH.

If you have any old flannel that can be cut up, these are my favorite for wipes. Softest and more absorbent than cotton tees (although I use those as well).

: I agree - try using two at a time or bunching/folding up one, if it's big enough. You could also try cheap washcloths from the dollar store and see if they are more absorbant. I ordered some from EmiBeans, they were less than $1 apeice with the grab bag mixes.

HTH!

I got some cheapie washcloths and they work great! I also had the same problem as you and with the next tee, I just cut a HUGE square and it did work so much better!

The best thing I've heard used for family cloth is old socks. I know folks who love the softness and the inside being terry or equivalent really wipes up a mess.

Our cloth is an old flannel sheet. I cut rectangles then folded and sewed three sides to make a double thickness 5" square and some others which are a 7" square. They are for 'dab-dabbing' as dd (3) says then we have some 7" old pink towel for wiping more sticky stuff. I did different fabrics to keep the two things separate.

If I get behind with the washing dd refuses to use tp (dh and the boys are less keen than dd and I) as she says its scratchy on her fanny and will use anything from the dirty washing basket to dab-dab with

If you use t shirt I would cut big squares so you can fold or bunch as the pps say maybe 8" square?

Don't give up just yet tp is sooo scratchy

I use cut up receiving blangets and just fold over once. Although I admit the squares are a wee bit too small. I'll get it right next time
