Congratulations, Mimi! THat's wonderful to hear that another homebirth went well.

And Ahwuko, I'm glad you're at a place where you feel comfortable. Much better to switch than to regret not switching! And 4 midwives? Sounds great.

warmly,
Kam, mamamama! to Meg and one more, due March 20

I think that sounds like the same kinda thing that can happen after a rough internal exam or stripping of the membranes. Not necessarily labor, but not out of the question.

My labors start with a BANG! HUGE contraction out of nowhere (no mistaking it) & very speedy labor to follow, not much warning here.
Everyone's different though, I suppose some could start with mild contrax.

Keep dtd! It's bound to get you somewhere (although, I have read that it won't do anything unless your body is ready....Dd1 was born about 4 or 5 hrs after we dtd .)

Could/would a provider strip membranes without asking you first? Would you know if they did it? Ever since that internal that hurt like the dickens (which was really surprising that it hurt that much), I've had more back pain, lots of pressure, and painless but tight ctx all day. I wonder if it hurt that much because she did something more than check?

Ahwuko, that sounds like a distinct possibility -- maybe that's why it hurt so much!

Wouldn't put it past them. This is my first pg with an OB practice (other two were w/ a mw) & at my first internal I said, "I've heard of Dr.'s stripping membranes without consent & I DO NOT want you to do that." I figured it was a good way to head them off.

Even with a "gentle" exam, I feel a little crampy for most of the rest of the day. HTH

well nothing happening here, yesterdays cramping gone.
although i am very mean and cranky, and didnt someone comment earlier in thread that they were and then they went into labour. Just my luck today (although really wouldnt mind deep dpwn), as having a very bad day and not even 11am yet. The hot water tank leaking and about to go any minute so dh turned off hot water until can pick up a new one tonight. Then on his way to work cooling fan went in the car, and i can barely walk as have a swollen ankle, which i dont remember rolling or twisting. So i feel like i am being the worst mother to my 2 yr old today, but did he really have to pick today to be MR whiney pants. he just wont stop, man i cant wait for nap time. Today is making me wonder how i am going to cope with 2 children, please tell me its just because im 37 weeks pg that im tired, cranky and impatient.

feeling better already as vented on here, and hes happily playing with his train set next to me (maybe i will get 5 mins peace today after all):

Congratulations, Mimi!

------Warning, long whine/vent ahead!

Well, today's my birthday. I've been thinking it might be a really nice present to have the baby today, but I don't think it's going to happen. I'm 40 weeks 4 days, and still no signs. I shouldn't be surprsied.. ds was 2 weeks late. BUT, I was sure my date last time was wrong, and ds was actually born around his true due date. This time, I was charting, and know exactly when I ovulated. So, I thought this one would be closer to the due date. I swear, if one more person asks me if I'm still pregnant, I'm going to scream! This morning, I even got "the question" from my 8-year-old neighboor!

Oh well, I'm sure it will turn out for the best. I'm probably not in the best physical shape for having a baby immediately, anyway.

I have a bit of a sore throat and an ear ache... which is how the bad cold I just recovered from started. Ds decided last night would be the first time he'd try to sleep in the bed in his room. He woke up at 3 am, and insisted on staying in his room for milk to go back to sleep. This was fine with me... except everytime I tried to get up after he drifted back to sleep, he would wake up! Usually, ds sleeps through the night, or if he wakes once, falls back to sleep and stays that way fairly quickly.

I've been up with ds since 3:00 am this morning. Ds got up for good at 5:00 (we usually sleep until 8!), and I'm exhausted. Now I'm wondering if I should have pushed the night weaning. How am I going to do this with a newborn??

I've also been dealing with a sudden case of thrush, and despite everything I've been doing, it doesn't seem to be going away. Luckily, I haven't had soreness, but it is so d*** itchy! And, I really don't want to start my nursing relationship with a newborn off with thrush! Ugh.

Okay, sorry for the whining. I have so much to be thankful for, and I know this baby will be here at the perfect time for him/her. Besides, ds is falling asleep on my shoulder as I type, so I think I'll head upstairs. I'm sure we'll both feel a lot better after a nice nap!

36 1/2 weeks... Had an AWESOME mw appointment today (my first 'real' appointment with her) OMG!! I swear I will NEVER go to an OB again. What a difference!!! Her and DH chatted and decided that he was going to catch the baby, so he's really excited about that. She gave me a list of what to pack, and when to call... etc. Said obviously I'm not due yet, but she feels comfortable to deliver this baby anytime, so I won't have to worry about a transfer from here on out!

She said he feels like he's on the small side (woohoo! lol) picked out body parts & showed us exactally how he is positioned. She said he's in a perfect position for birth and I just need to talk to him and encourage him to stay there

I got all of his NB & 0-3 clothes and all the blankets & towels etc washed and put away last night. We are installing the car seat & sidecar-ing the crib tonight.

Everything seems to be falling into place Hopefully he stays in there a bit longer so mommy can do some more sewing!

Im not feeling any particular signs of her coming except a hug sense of urgency to get everything DONE. and NOW.
Im 37 weeks tomorrow, so still a bit early yet... My dh asked me this morning "so, you think she'll come later this week?" I replied, "NO." He's like whys that? I replied because I have so much to do on my to do list yet!

I got strangely involved with dusting this morning....even did the grout in the bathroom, all the pictures, doorframes, window sills, and even washed off the lightbulbs over the sink Assembled a stroller, sold my house (!), cleaned the inside of the toaster oven and coffee maker, dragged out all the paint supplies and touched up all the paint I've been wanting to fix, spackled & sanded a few cracks, hemmed my pants for the hospital, made a list of things for DH to do while we're at the hospital, and now I'm off to try making a sling. I hope this means something is going to happen soon. I'm a maniac!

I did that on Friday!!!! I was standing atop the bathroom sink & wiping down the light bulbs! Our bathroom is immaculate (it's where I secretly plan to give birth .)

Had an appt today with midwife..........my 2-3 cm dilation and 80% effaced has not changed (in 2 1/2 weeks). Baby is in a great position and we could indentify how he/she is laying. Heartbeat sounds great each time. So all that sounds great.

Well, she mentioned sweeping membranes and I was pretty sure I was going to say no. But.......then I told her to go ahead. After I left her office I was regretting that I did. I don't know why I did. Now I am just hoping nothing happens tonight and baby comes when he/she is good and ready.

so I am feeling down that I had her do that for no good reason. and that she suggested it for no good reason.........other than she is going on vacation this weekend.

just need hugs.......i sure do NOT want to start the spiral of interventions so I just pray I didn't start something that shouldn't be starting. I am contracting a bit this afternoon and am very crampy, but I am sure anybody would be crampy after that.

Allismom~ I'm sure everything will be fine and go just the way they were meant to go. There is nothing to do about it now, just try to relax and think positively and know that this birth path is unique to you and that what will be, will be! I'll be thinking about you!

Things are happening around here... but not with my cervix! That's actually a good thing, I'm hoping baby holds out another week. Tonight we go pick up the keys to our new home! It's crazy being first time homeowners... and first time parents, all in (possibly) the same week! Tomorrow the movers come at 9:00 am, and then we'll be living in our new home. Wednesday the midwife comes by for another home visit.

I am already feeling much more relaxed. My mom flew in last week and has been great to have around. I haven't had any inkling that baby is ready to come- no contractions, etc. Wednesday (3/8) is our original due date, but based on ovulation we are going with the 16th. I feel like baby will use the extra week, he/she just doesn't seem ready yet. Knock on wood. As long as she waits until Wednesday, I'll be ready!

Thank you so much Ellie. That's just the support I needed for my first parenting mistake/regret (with this child).

Just hanging out to see if these contractions turn into anything or not.

FWIW Shari, I feel crampy & extra contract-y after an internal even when they are really gentle.
to Honeybee. It's going to be okay!

Also to Shari. Baby won't come until s/he's ready--it's not like you are shooting up pitocin!

Awhuko, your post cracked me up. I had to read it out loud to DH, and say "if I start doing this, pack your bag!" Hope it means your time is coming soon!

Well, I am now a firm believer in Terbutaline. 2 days after I stopped taking it, my contractions got longer and harder and I started cramping really bad at night (none of which happened when I was on the terb, so I know it did it's job in delaying my labor). I'm 36 weeks now. Went to the doc today and she says I'm 50% effaced and still closed. I knew something was going on with that intense of cramps. Man, if they hurt that bad, I can't even imagine what real labor is going to feel like! Holy crap! Am I crazy to try to do this without drugs? LOL....
