Weekly chat and labor updates - Page 5

If meanness was a (reliable) sign, then I surely would have had this baby last weekend. Holy cow, I was one grouchy mama! I just felt so DONE and irritable and weepy and just miserable. Luckily I got over it, because there's not much point in feeling that nasty if it's not going to do anything!

I never heard of that before--it was one of those little late-in-pregnancy surprises for me.

I'm 36 weeks and had my first internal exam today. Owie! But I was pleased to hear I'm 2-3 centimeters dialated. I thought I probably was because I'd had lots of cramping over the weekend, but I was glad to hear that the pain actually amounted to something. My regular docs just look at my belly and know where her parts are (which agrees with where I think they are). Oh well, all was still fine!

Good luck, contracting mamas!!
I could have written this post! Went in today, first internal - WHY didn't anyone ever say how much this hurts?! Because it did, and seriously undermined my confidence to get through this whole labor and delivery deal! Absolutely nothing is happening so I bet I have at least two weeks yet. No reason to stop working either. I better get back to walking, walking, walking.

Ugh, just need to whine a bit...

So after my weird nesting and pooping yesterday, nothing.

Except now it's not loose stools, it's like, impressive diarrhea. With accompanying cramps. But then afterwards I have an appetite, just not for anything we have in the fridge. So it's not like a stomach bug where you swear you'll never eat again.

All of this, and I am the Queen of the Cast-Iron Stomachs.

Grrr.....And I am in a NASTY mood today. Right there with you all on the meanness. I just want to cry and stop pooping and not get my hopes up about this baby coming any time soon.

Our poor, poor septic system.

Anyone else getting tired out of nowhere?! Ug! I still have a crap-load of sewing to do, and I make one diaper and I feel like I could sleep a good 8 hours... I tried to iron some fabric this morning... HA! Twenty minutes into it I was laying on the couch.

My poor belly too... I'm not having any back pain (woohoo) but my skin feels like it is going to rip open... what the heck is this kid doing in there?!

I'm tired!

I went for my NST today before my OB appt. Well, she had heartrate decels again today, so they wanted to do an u/s. I said, no. I had one yesterday and there is no reason to put me and the baby through that again so soon. The dr. agreed that since I knew my fluid level was 9 (glad I asked!) I didn't need one today and they let me go ahead and leave for my appt.

At my appt, they did an internal...no dialation, still high up, no progress. He wants me to go to the hospital tomorrow or Sunday for another NST and u/s to check my fluid levels again.

My OB still says my EDD is March 21, but I mentioned it to the peri and he said that if the u/s said my EDD was March 28 then that date is my real EDD. He doesn't know why my OB disagrees.

The u/s also said that the baby is 6lbs 12 oz. The peri said that I need to have this baby within the next 2 weeks.

DH is TOTALLY against me being induced. His ex was induced twice and had horrible birth experiences. He doesn't want that for me. Isn't he a sweetie!

I saw mw today. I'm 38 wks. I asked for an internal and she said I'm 2 cms dilated, 80% effaced, baby is engaged, but my cervix is still pretty posterior? I guess that means my body (bh) is doing something. She said that scar tissue on my cervix may or may not be an issue with me dialating in labor. I had a procedure to remove cancer spots in 2002 that left a good bit of scar tissue. Any one know how this might affect labor? Nubianamy, I'm right there with you. As of today I've gained a whopping 48 lbs. This is my 2nd baby,But I was induced before and so I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for labor to start. Not to whine, but all week I've been throwing up a lot every day. And half the I vomit, the force of it makes me wet my pants. I'm about ready to cry because the only 2 pairs of pants I can still fit are now in the wash. Can't wait for baby to come and the laundry to finish.

My goodness sounds like you need a

Same here - I gained almost 40 too, but I have no idea where it went. Baby belly is small and I don't look fatter anywhere else, nor do I look swollen. And I peed my pants too, except it happened to me at work after a sneeze that caught my off guard! I have 1 pair of work pants left, but I dread washing them because they're my only pair that fit, and have to get me through to the end of working, and I don't want them to fade and/or shrink....then I'd have to go out on FMLA due to lack of appropriate clothing rather than labor! I'm hanging out in DH's undershirts and let me tell you, its less than flattering.

I had a procedure to remove some spots in 2000. It did effect labor as I got "stuck" at 1cm for a few hours while the rest of my labor went really quick. If anything it will probably cause you to get "stuck" at some point, but your body should work through it as long as the scar tissue isn't too severe. As long as your MW is looking out for it, it shouldn't be an issue

Well, tomorrow is the LMP due date but Wednesday is the Ovulation due date. Wednesday will be the official due date. I decided to make today my last of work so I can focus on the baby. If I go 1 week past the due date, it will be an automatic c/s since with the breech there are just too many things as risk factors at that point. I had a MW appt. yesterday but we didn't do an internal. I am curious. I think I'll ask for one on Wed. if she doesn't offer. I feel like the baby is in the pelvis. I have a lot of pressure. Whenever, I get a decent contraction I have to pee eventhough there's not much in there. I have contractions that last forever. They make my tummy sore and tired. I wish I would get the short regular ones.

I am with you all the pee problems and the eating tons. I work at hospitals and nursing floors are notorious for having snacks and goodies all the time. Fortunately, it's not as bad this time of year as it is around Christmas time.

I'm doing okay--easily tired, easily irritated, easily panicked, easily upset. Darn ball of laughs, I am. I yelled at Meg today, which made her cry, which, in turn, made me cry. Uggh. We did the last of our baby shopping today, which was fun, but I was totally exhausted after an hour or so. I'm running out of steam!

We found a mouse in our house tonight, which is totally freaking me out with a new baby coming soon. I'm not afraid of mice, but don't want their poop and pee anywhere near my children!! Yikes. What to do? Just the worst timing on the planet, huh?

Ahwuko, I can tell you that in my own experience, having my cervix touched, whether in labor or before it began, was excrutiating. It hurt much worse than the contractions I was having, even at 9cm. So I don't think you should compare labor to that feeling. The cervix isn't meant to be touched from the outside like that--it hurts like the devil!!

My midwive told me today she thinks I'm a crockpot as opposed to a microwave. She made me make a prenatal appointment for the Friday after I'm due, she is so sure I'll go late. Half of me is glad, and half of me is disappointed. Oh, well. They'll all be here before we know it.

warmly,
Kam, mamamama! to Meg and one more, due March 20

Yikes, all these stories about tender cervices makes me worried! I haven't had any vaginal exams yet, figuring my body will inform me when something is happening...

I have had people quote me March 6, March 7 and March 9 as my dd, so I figured I'd pick the last one (so as not to feel weird about going "over!"). I still think I'll give birth about a week late anyway.

I am really not in a hurry for labor to begin! Too much to do! Plus I want my family to be here, and they're not showing up until the 8th.

I feel the same as I have for most of this pregnancy, which is to say mostly comfortable and happy to be pregnant. Even the pubic pain has vanished. I'm a freak! I hope this doesn't mean I'll be pregnant for another month. : I am sporadically tired, though.

Last night I couldn't sleep at all -- kept waking up with dreams of my water breaking. I had to check the bed to see if it was wet!

Coming up on 40 weeks... gosh!

I was thinking of Ina May - the difference between productive pain and destructive pain - this def. felt like the bad kind, the kind that says this isn't a good thing and get me away from it! I should have known better and just let things happen the way they happen - although it was so tempting to check it in hopes of encouraging news.
Oh, I didn't mean you shouldn't get checked, Ahwuko! Just that I hoped you wouldn't think that because a cervical check was painful, that dilation would be worse, or as bad even. It certainly wasn't for me. Sorry to make you feel bad (again -- I'm still hoping your OB story turns out to be less traumatic than it seemed).

Oh no not at all - could it have been the way she did it? I have no idea. And I have switched care so much during this pg, I feel like the worst patient ever. But after the MD fiasco at 38 weeks I gave up and went to the big regional hospital about an hour away where they have 4 midwives. I had avoided it because I didn't want to travel that far over the winter, but after seeing the facility and meeting the midwives I switched again to them And so far, I really like them & the facility.

Meanness IS a sign of impending labor

I did it mamas, she's here!~! I am so much nicer now.

Will post a birth story soon.

Beatrice Abigail, born this morning at 5:26 am = first baby, ten hours of labor, two hours of pushing, homebirth.

6 lbs 11 oz, 19 inches long, perfect and gorgeous if I do say so.

It can be done, y'all - one way or the other. Babies for everyone!!
