Is Glycerine an emulsifier? I want to make lotion and I have limited options on materials that can be used as an emulsifer. Does anyone have a list of natural emulsifers?
Thanks

Glycerin is not an emulsifier. I've heard people using beeswax and borax but it's not a very stable emulsifier meaning your lotion may seperate with time. For me, the only stable emulsifier I've found is ewax.

Glycerin is a humectant rather than an emulsifier. e-wax is a good one though and works well. Otherwise I have made lotion using beeswax and um... whatcha-ma-call-it.... oh liquid lecithin. Man, my pregnancy brain was not giving up that answer easily That worked pretty well, but it took lots of work to get the balance just right. And I found I had to start the whole mix much hotter in order to get it to combine well and I had to use a stick blender and blend the bejeezes out of it.

Disclaimer: I have NO IDEA if this is something you would really want to put in lotion but this website http://www.botanical.com/products/supply/ingred.html
says that Borax is an emulsifier. Here's what it says about the borax powder they sell

Quote:
Borax Powder (sodium borate)
A natural source cosmetic grade Sodium Borate that does not contain surfactants and detergents which are commonly found in commercial Borax products. Borax acts as an emulsifier, natural preservative and buffering agent for moisturizers, scrubs and bath salts.
