castile or other soaps q's

So I've been wanting to make some of the recipes in the sticky, and I've found most of the ingredients really cheap, but I can't seem to find castile soap flakes or any kind of vegetable based bar to grate that is fairly cheap. I just don't want to pay 5 dollars for a bar of soap to grate up and make one batch of laundry detergent. Is this just something I'm going to have to do?

By the way, thanks for all of the wonderful advice I've already gotten from reading past posts. I'm going to start no-pooing tomorrow(I've already made my mixtures!!) and as soon as i figure out this soap dilemma i'm going to start making my own laundry and dish detergent! We're planning on moving in a couple of months and I've already told dh that he'll be switching to cloth tp when we move

anyway thanks in advance for the advice!

If you're not so concerned with everything being vegetable-based, Ivory soap works well in many of the recipes. Ivory is very inexpensive and it doesn't have any harsh perfumes or dyes that many people find irritating. Just keep in mind that Ivory soap is made with animal fat- some people find that objectionable, others don't really care.

thanks for the reply Ruthla! Maybe I'll keep looking around. I just thought that maybe there was an easy answer that I was missing since all of the other ingredients were so easy to come by.

On another note, I just no-pooed my hair for the first time! WOO HOO!! It feels pretty good, it's still wet though so I hope it looks good dry!

thanks for all the wonderful info on this site! You guys Rock!!

I posted this in the detergent discussion, but anyway...
I use Kirk's castile soap, which they have at our grocery store. It is fairly inexpensive, animal free and friendly, and easy to grate. It also has a nice, light fragrance (all natural). HTH
