How many of us are there right now on MDC? - Page 2

I'm happy to see there are so many of us.

BTW--I asked y'all to answer a question and I didn't answer it myself .

I was looking at another hospital VBAC, but we've moved and I do not have the support I need for that (Central VA is not friendly to VBAC mamas), so we are seriously a homebirth (that is, if the only homebirth m/w in the area will take me even though I had 3 c-sections). I plan to call her on Monday.

I think I've read about your lack of choices on another thread...

What I would opt for if I had the choice would probably be a CNM at a birth center. I don't want a homebirth, but I'd definitely choose a birth center over a hospital. I would go for a CNM, but I don't have access to any (my choices are homebirth MW or hospital and OB).

That said... our hospital is very, very nice (lots of amenities, big jacuzzi tubs, private rooms, telemetry monitoring, good nurse, no "nursery" --> rooming in basically expected, queen-sized PP beds, cloth dipes, etc.). Last time, I got a complimentary PP massage.

My OB practice did well by me last time, so I'm sticking with them again. I feel like they were about as flexible and supportive as drs. can get about VBAC...

Where are you in Central VA? I grew up there and was seriously considering moving back in with my parents in Farmville for a few weeks if I had to, since I know of a hb mw in Lynchburg. (I'm on the Northern Neck now.)

I know what you mean about it not being very VBAC-friendly. My friend has told me some horror stories about bait-and-switch with OBs.

I'm in Midlothian and hoping to buy a house in Chesterfield country in the near future . Told hubby that any house with a jetted tub is in the running

Yes, I am very concerned about a bait-and-switch situation. "Don't worry your pretty little head. Of course, you can go for the VBAC. Let me just get that Operating Room ready while you stay here tethered to the bed with full-time monitoring. Why don't we just get you that epidural now just in case?"

There are only 2 VBAC friendly docs (out of 20) in the practice I'm with now. One has been a great comfort to me, but again it just depends on who is on when the big day comes. I have much more faith in my ability to homebirth than in getting one of the friendly docs.

Cloth dipes!!!!!! Wow! That's cool!

Yeah, that was me that you read about. It's been a real challenge and culture shock, but I'm overcoming it. I just am incredulous that it's this bad. I had expected some resistence, but it seems that everyone (including other moms) are very medical minded here.

I had one in August and can attest to how powerful of an experience it was emotionally and physically. It was awesome.

I am pregnant with #4, planning a VBAC with a midwife in July.

I am due in early April, planning an HBAC!

KK, that's so cool that your hospital support is so great. (Cloth dipes? Queen size pp bed???? WOW) I wish all hospitals were like that! I am very excited about and looking forward to our homebirth, but in a way, I do feel sort of forced into it because the hospital here pays lip service to supporting VBAC, but in reality, the support is minimal. If I was uncomfortable with a homebirth, I would be quite upset with my hospital options. I think it's absurd the way women's choices around this VBAC are becoming more and more limited. : But it is refreshing to hear that not every hospital is going that route.

Late coming to the thread, but...I'm planning an HBAC, sometime in the next few weeks.

Best of luck, stayathomecristi, in your search! (Both for a birth situation and a house! )

I'm due for an HBAC or BC VBAC in June

Well, I just found out I'm preganant this morning...10 days along so far.
So, I will add my self to the list. I'll be planning my first VBAC for November. My last birth was planned to be a homebirth but I transferred and ended up with a csec. I am hoping I can have an HBAC.

Good luck to all of us VBACers!!

I too am planning a hospital VBAC, sometime in the next few weeks. I wish I could have had a HBAC (our initial plan) but we just couldn't afford it. Since the only local hospital that allows VBACs is an hour away, we are planning to labor in a hotel nearby so who knows, maybe we'll wind up with a UBAC!

Vbac

Planning a VBAC - had a c-section with DS, who was 2 weeks late and went into distress when CNM tried to use cervical ripening insert (to preserve the CHANCE of a natural birth).

Hoping for a different outcome, but a little nervous - in some ways I feel like a first-time laboring mom?! "What do contractions feel like?" everyone says "you'll know?!" I hope so!

Baby due in mid-april.

Always reading...

... but not a lot of time to post. I've had 2 HBAC's while here on MDC. And Man Cub #4 is nearing his 1st birthday.

And I have to say that my HBAC's were the single most life affirming experiences I have had thus far.

Bright blessings and belly rubs to all of you on your journey towards your births.

Hmmmm---I just heard a rumor that there *may* be an amish midwife in Farmville. The suggestion was to go to the local Amish furniture store and inquire. Just a possibility....

Just wanted to give you all an update. I had a successful, no-drugs VBAC 3/21 at our local hospital. It was very hectic and I ended up with a pretty brutal tear (he was posterior and they tried to turn him, but couldn't...he popped out anyway). Everything turned out great, though, and I'm finding a 3rd degree tear to be an easier recovery than my previous c-section. Bub is doing well, BF-ing well (I didn't BF my first for very long due to all sorts of c-section related issues). His name is Henry Gordon and we're calling him Harry.
