I use the spray bottle method, too and add some eo to it for a nice smell and I don't really worry about drying the floor because there isn't that much liquid. I do go over any wet spots with a dry rag.

Here's some recipes for wood floor cleaners:

I tried the vinegar/water spray w/ some orange EO in it. I just used the spray bottle and then a swiffer mop to scrub/mop the floor. It was very easy and it got my floors looking very clean. The only problem is that my DH said he could still smell the vinegar afterwards & I definitely used enough EO in my solution. Maybe I should use a stronger EO, like Peppermint...or maybe I'm putting too much vinegar in the solution?

I think 1/2 water 1/2 vinegar would not smell once it dries. I bet your DH just thinks he can still smell it. You know how sometimes you can smell something, and once it goes away, you still think you can smell it? I do this with Ds's diapers sometimes.

For our tile floors, I've been using hot water with a little bit of liquid castile soap (about 2 TBS for a gallon+ of hot water) that has TTO in it (by Desert Essence, I think) and adding 5-10 drops of EO (eucalyptus or lemon are my favorites). It makes the house smell so clean!

We mainly vacuum our wood floors.

This might be a silly question, but, when you mix up water, vinegar and EO in a spray bottle, does it go bad? Or loose it's effectiveness over time? Do you make a fresh batch each time?

Just curious. Thanks for the ideas. I've been looking for a less toxic way to clean my lineolum (sp?) floors.

Vinegar and essential oils are usually antiseptic and antifungal, so no, it doesn't go bad.

Water, on the other hand, can go bad depending on your kind of tap water in your area. If you're worried about the water spoiling in your mixture, you can either make small batches that last you 2-4 weeks, and make a fresh batch each month, or you can use distilled water.
