I want to read a good non-fiction. I like stuff on society/current events (I have a BA in sociology so anything like that). I really liked Bobos in Paradise, Nickel and Dimed, Fast Food Nation ect.....I like to use my brain a little since I stay home with a toddler all day!!! Help!

Tell me about Bobos! The review on amazon wasn't that great but it sounds so interesting! I had to laugh at one review, she said the book was "glib" LOL

I loved "The Tipping Point: How Little Things Make a Big Difference" by Malcolm Gladwell. His discussion just fascinated me. All about human behavior and what starts changes, trends, etc.

I'm getting ready to read "Blink : The Power of Thinking Without Thinking " also by him.

This isn't new, but an excellent read: Manufacturing Consent by Noam Chomsky and Ed Herman. It's about how media plays a role in shaping our ideas propaganda-style. It goes in-depth to show that the media are controlled by the powers that be through mega-corporations and that true socio-political discourse is absent in the media because of private interests (think, "Yes, most people believed the WMD lie told by the current administration because FOX TV said so"). Very eye-opening. I wish everyone would read this.

I'm currently reading Don't Get Too Comfortable by David Rakoff. Political commentary. Funny. Very left leaning. I'm enjoying it.

bricorssk, Bobos stands for "Bohemian Bousauisie(sp!)" and it's about rich/upperclass people who want to be hippies/look like them. They take certain parts they like from every religion, buy "distressed furniture, and take more authentic vacations. I don't know how to describe it...i just think it's very entertaining!

Also thanks for they recs, they sound great. I will start looking them up! Jennifer
