How long is your baby sleeping now?

There are days when it seems that all Simon wants to do is sleep. He'll nurse, be awake maybe 30min, and already be yawning and ready for a nap. Like this morning, he woke up at around 7am, was changed, I thought he'd be up for a while, but then nursed back to sleep again until 9am and then nursed back to sleep again! But there are other days when he just cat naps all day.

How long are your almost 3month olds sleeping these days? I know every baby is different, I'm just wondering if others seem as sleepy?

Oh yeah, part of the reason I'm wondering is because I figured Simon would be awake longer periods these days. Is it too early to expect that he'll be up more during the day?

Sounds a lot like Samara. Some days she'll sleep and sleep....other days, just a few cat naps. There's not really a predicatable pattern yet.

Aveena is only two months, but she is barely sleeping during the day. She maybe gets a couple of hours in the mornining, then only goes down for about 20 mins from then on .

At night she's down by 7pm then waking for feeds every 3hrs or so until about 5.30am when she's up for an hour.

So sorry, no help on the sleeping all day thing, but I say, long may it last for you. I wonder if he's just recently got the whole sleeping thing together and it catching up on the sleep he wasn't able to get when he was younger?

(She hopefully thinks Aveena may do the same when she gets older)

Moira still sleeps a ton - 18-20 hours a day I'd say.

I think this is a matter of disposition. Amalie slept much much less and still fights sleep.

i'm with simone...some days ava only catnaps but those days are rare. like today:
last night fell asleep for good at around 10pm, woke up briefly (like 5 minutes)at 4am, then at 6, then at 8:30. then she was up until 10:30am and has been asleep ever since then (it's 1pm now)...she's still sleeping. so she'll probably have a very sleepy day today. on these days she's up for maybe an hour to an hour and a half and then asleep for 3-4 hour stretches.

she's really moving into a much longer stretch of sleep at night too. for 3 days in a row she slept from 10-7am. last night she woke up at 4, but it was my fault. i woke myself up at 4 with a cough and i think i woke her up. so i'm pretty sure she would have slept until 7 again.

BUT - rowan was NOT like this. he slept well at night in taht he never woke for too long...but he woke to nurse at least 3-4x a night until he was about 18mos and then it was once a night until about 2.5yo (when he nightweaned). and he has ALWAYS fought sleep. never slept on his own until 18mos (always had to be on me or next to me)...ava sleeps alone in her little moses basket and seems to prefer that to being on me.

they're so different!!

He catnaps throughout the day. At night he sleeps 4 hours then wakes up for a snack, then sleeps another 4 hours.

Tori sleeps 10-12 hours at night. No snack breaks, just straight through. Some days she'll sleep for what feels like for ever during the day. A few times she's even skipped a feeding (usually every 2 hours during the day) for a total of 4 hours straight of sleep. But recently she has either not been sleeping at all during the day or will only sleep the last half hour before she eats again....

it all depends on the day here ... some days lucy takes a HUGE (like 3+ hours) afternoon nap with no stirring or anything ... but then some days she'll just take a short nap, nurse a bit, short nap, nurse, etc.

but last night (thank goodness... everybody was beat) she slept from about midnight until 7 a.m. ... most days she seems to follow a bit of a pattern, but then there are some days that are totally different!

Catnaps to 3 hour stretches during the day but usually 30-60 minutes on average if she is being held. If she is asleep and I put her down to do something, she wakes up.

At night, I will nurse her about midnight (when I go to bed). She usually will sleep until at least 6 if not 7 or 8. I can nurse her for 5 minutes at 6 and she will sleep for another few hours.

I was totally prepared to nurse her around the clock like my son always wanted but she decided to be a sleeper and I kinda like it!

wow, so i guess my guy is pretty typical! he has days where he just catnaps and others where he'll sleep for 3 hour stretches. we are getting better at nursing in the wrap, so some days he's just in there all day... he can snooze then nurse then snooze some more. he's started going for longer stretches at night, too. we both usually crash out around 9! then he might sleep until 3 or 4, then nurse and sleep again until 7. although just when i think he's falling into a pattern, he'll totally change things around!!

Oh I feel better. I took a few days to read this thread and I wish I had read it right away. My dd sounds like many of the other kids.

My mom is visiting me right now with loads of family bed criticism and I happened to read my free AAP guide today (avaible at the birth center and a free gift from similac ). It said 3 month olds have stomach capacities to sleep through the night which sent me into worryland.

I just ordered my copy of the no cry sleep method to read.

Things are normal, I guess.

Lately however, dd sleeps from 9 or 10 until about 1 to 3 and then starts waking/feeding very frequently and squriming A LOT constantly. I can no longer sleep after her first night feeding she moves so much in our queen bed. Who knew little babies could be such bed hogs?:

If I could stop her squirming, things would be better.

As for daytime, she sleeps if we go out in the car or stroller pretty much the whole time, but if we stay in, she catnaps several little naps at the boob but wakes if I put her down after a few minutes.

The longest Winter ever sleeps is 2 hours. He still is sleeping about 16-18 hours a day, with 2 good long awake periods during the day. He was sleeping 5-6 hour stretches at night for about a week but he's back to waking every couple of hours at night again now.

Well, I have a tummy sleeper : Since I started that, she sleeps for hours at a time. 2-3 hours at a time during the day and 12 hours a night minus a 6:00 feed.

But don't dare take her outside of the house when she's tired. No carrier, no arms, nothing. She loves her own sleep space.

Wow, this sounds like ds lately, too! Last night was especially bad, and I barely slept a wink after 3am. Gosh, it's so frustrating when you know your little dc is waking because of tummy discomfort and there's not much you can do.

Anyway, it's comforting to hear that everyone's babies are so different and they vary from day to day, just like Simon. I'm trying to nurse him to sleep in our bed for naps. He seems to sleep better/longer there than in any sling nowadays.

Aveena does the same thing with the squirming. She didn't last night for the first time since who knows when. I thought it was something I was eating, but I'm non-dairy and non-soy and it doesn't seem to be helping that much. So maybe she's just a normal baby and I can start introducing stuff after all.

Yeah, Megan, I feel certain it isn't anything you are eating, b/c I have been on the elimination diet for over a month, and we are experiencing no food sensitivities now, KWIM.

Perhaps it is growth spurt related b/c they are hungrier and sleep lighter?

LOL the one thing i learned with rowan (and has stayed true with ava) is that as soon as you 1) feel confident in their schedule, 2) tell someone about their schedule, or 3) schedule something yourself which depends on their schedule...they will COMPLETELY change it. LOL

probably until they're 18 and out of your house. they'll still do it, but you won't know because they're not living with you. hopefully. LMAO!
